There are so many ways to save money while you shop. But even the best bargain hunter will sometimes leave money "sitting on the table." There are also those who are an easy target for paying top price for everything they buy. Where do you sit? Are you a bargaining master or an easy target?

I am a super crap shopper, I can spend a whole load of money and think what are we having for tea:confused:

I just went to Tescos for the weekly shop and on the way home remembered I forgot the bread and squash so I popped to another supermarket on my way home to pick these two items up and spent another £14:-5

I have tried doing a daily shop. Nightmare, ran out of foods and motivation.

I have tried going to the butcher, farm shop and fruit and veg shop and then supermarket for essentials, doesn't work cos I just spent more.

I always make a list and I always plan menus for the week when making the list.

My hubby is good at the shopping and I wish I was lol:D

Any tips guys?

I just decide at the store what we're going to have for the week unless I'm craving something specific to cook. :)

I buy the same old stuff week in and week out. I fill the freezer with stuff and the cupboards with stuff then look at it all and think 'There's nothing to make a meal from'!!!

I am a bad shopper, especially if I go shopping when I'm hungry - then I fill the trolley with junk............

I'm good at buying shoes, handbags and books though!:D

I check the kitchen and pantry and see what i need as far as basics go..salt, flour, sugar, tea, spices. blah blah..i see what is on sale and go get those one day..a few days later i see what kind of meat is on sale for the week at which grocery stores..i go get that..i get alot of my can goods at a certain store that usually has the three for a dollar four for a dollar thing....soap, shampoo and the like i get from certain stores i know have good deals on another day. My daughter is a thrifty shopper and grabs the sales papers up before i do alot.she goes through it and circles what she like, needs or thinks is a good deal.:wah:

Even though I grocery shop for just the two of us I will buy the Value Pack or Family Pack when buying meat. It's about 40% less than buying individual steaks, chicken breasts or pork. I will wrap in foil and freeze for future use.

I like to catch all the ads for all the grocery stores in Sundays or Wednesdays papers. Then I look at who has what I want for the cheapest. Then I make a circle around to each store to get what's on sale, and even bring a cooler so I don't have to stop home to put things in the fridge before going to the next store. I buy bread at the day old store for about 1/3 the cost of it at any store.

One must be careful to not drive too far from store to store, as any perceived savings could be eaten up by the extra gasoline used

ok:rolleyes: I sometimes shop online, you get a running total of what you are spending, also a list of categories like bakery, fruit and veg, meat, tinned goods etc. also if you book your order a few days in advance you can go back up until 5pm the day before delivery and change your order, and you are in the house so you can just go check if you actually need loo roll or eggs etc. :wah: even with the delivery charge i usually spend less.

My only concern with the online shopping is the sell by dates. I bet they grab the first one, i'm sneaky & take one from the back :sneaky:

yea i usually check the sell by dates when shopping. I usually use asda online and they have been fine mostly. there was only one time when something had a really short sell by date and i phoned them up and complained so they just refunded me the money, i managed to stuff it in to the freezer anyway so it was ok;) you can also send anything back at the door when they deliver, and they just scan it on their little computer thingy and your money is refunded. If they dont have the exact item you ordered they will send a substitute and even if its dearer you only pay the price of the item originally ordered, and again if you dont want the substitute they will just take it back and refund. I dont use it all the time but i find it pretty useful, especially at christmas time, no massive queues to stand in:D

I always have a list, but doesn't mean I follow it, when sales are on, I buy them then............always check my flyers weekly.

but them sometimes like last week when I needed butter, had to pay 4.19...........................where 3 weeks ago it was on for 1.99.................should have boughten more, but how much can you really buy when items are on sale?

We stock up heavily on meats especially when they are on sale..........otherwise its just to expensive and I refuse to pay the prices...........especially chicken, it used to really inexpensive..........not anymore, it costs a fortune.

Shoppers Drug Mart always has the 4l bag of milk on for 3.99

other stores range from 4.99 and up...............I refuse to pay 6.00 for milk!

If you shop online their are bargains at websites I go to. Don't know if they work in the UK you might want to take a look on the web. I go through Mybargainbuddy.com, momsview.com and mystudentrewards.com This last one you will have to fake being a student and list your high school. They give you codes to put in when your paying.
