I'm looking into getting private dental insurance. What kind do you recommend? I don't want to get suckered into a bad plan. I would like insurance that goes into effect immediately as I have two crowns needing replacement and they run $800-1000 EACH out here. What should I look for and what should I avoid?

Thanks.

That's not insurance it is payment for a known risk. You are not going to be able to buy something on the open market that will allow you to pay a modest premium and then immediately collect two thousand dollars in benefits (and perhaps then cancel the policy). That's called adverse risk, how would anyone make a profit doing that?

Think about it, would you risk your money that way? Would you buy a used care knowing it needed more in repairs then you paid for it?

To have any kind of insurance when you really need it and have it pay benefits, you must buy it when you don't need it.

99% of dental Ins. won't cover crowns - not at all.

Dental Ins. is a waste of money, honest..

Ins will give a free teeth cleaning twice a year and covers very little.

your better off setting up a payment plan with the Dentist Office.

Or - make a trip to Mexico - a crown & all the work @ $50.00.

I have great Dental Insurance through my employer and it cover Crowns, Bridge work, gum surgery you name it and the out of pocket is very reasonable but then again its provided by my employer.

It is through "First Dental Health" with Principal Financial Group mine is a PPO. I don't know if they sell private insurance can't hurt to look into it.
