Ablut a month ago..i stepped outside on my front porch to smoke a ciggarette..i could very faintly hear a man screaming.."oh god, help me" i called nine one one..two county police officers responded..we walked across the dirt road closer to the river..They and I listened..they couldnt hear it.i could..they got smart and told me it was an owl..they left..i waited about fifteen minutes..torn...i called nine one one again..and told the lady that answered that i know what i hear..send someone out ..she told me i would be charged for every response..i told her to charge the **** out of me..i know what i hear..

so ................i ended up with several county officers..a firetruck..paramedics..and the state police dogs..and game and fish responded on fourhweelers and a boat...two hours later..they find the man..he had flipped his fourwheeler over on a trail..he ended up laying half submerged in the river with the fourwheeler on top of him..and no way out...we have aligators in our river..

i got an apology from the first two officers that argued with me the first time..over it being an owl. They said they couldnt believe i could here him from so far away..when they couldnt.and a man's life was saved..he was boated out to the highway and taken by ambulance to the hospital..

I am glad i went with my guts..and not been backed down by the police officers the first time..but when i made that second call i was kinda scared..

Charged for 911 calls ?

That doesnt seem like a good policy.

You should send them a bill for something.

He doesnt know about me..the police asked me if they could tell him..i said "no" ..the important thing to me is that i remember or learned out of this..to stand up for what i believe in..once, when i was nineteen, i was in a serious car wreck..a man stopped and pulled me out of the wreckage..called nine one one..and left after the ambulance loaded me up..but not before telling me after i thanked him over and over..."dont thank me", he didnt do it for the thanks or the glory, He told me he was a paramedic out of south carolina on his way home from a vacation in florida..because of him..and his atittude.i have always tried to give it back..where i can.

My neighbors and my family have said i am way to humble but i understood what the paramedic was saying along time ago..if you can make the world a better place..just for even one..thats the best feeling in the world..and to do it for no other reason than..because i "can":-6

I don't think anyone does what you did for the thanks, not unless they've got some kinda over-exploded ego.

But most people who have been helped out like this have a genuine need to be able to say thanks in the very least. It's human nature.
