In among all the doom and gloom perhaps we could wish good luck to Ianthe Fullagar, 18, from Ravenglass, Cumbria, who just picked up £7 million on the Euro Lottery. "Currently on a gap year before she starts her law degree in 2009, she is now busy making plans for her future. After treating herself to a holiday in Egypt, she will share the money with family and friends and buy herself a black Ford KA."

An Irish one, presumably, if she wants a government guarantee that she can have it back later.
I'm wondering which foolhardy financial advisor will be the first to ask her whether she'd like to invest in some shares on the Stock Exchange.
Congratulations Ms Fullagar
