I am horrible at taking compliments (even from people I know) I am learning to just say "thank you" and be happy. It's a strange flaw to have.

I think that you are the most beautiful, wonderful, loving person that I have ever met in my life.

Sometimes I use complements like "Nice Shoes", or "Nice Hair" to break the ice with someone and possibly to open up a conversation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and they just say thankyou and say nothing else! :)

Oh boy do I know what you mean there, the BF when I first met him had huge hang ups about compliments. Huge bigger than anything I had ever seen in a person. This made me incredibly uncomfortable as I was raised in a family that compliments people easily and we are genuine and kind about and I am always complimenting people.

Soo when we started to date seriously I paid him a very kind and high compliment and he told me "don't do that, that makes me uncomfortable" I parted for the day and felt genuinely hurt because he told me to do something that totally goes against my nature. It was like telling me not to smile. I can't even begin to tell you how that made me feel. Then I got to thinking "screw you buddy, I will compliment you on that is how I am, if I think you look great in something then deal with it etc" So I chose to brush off his weak assed statement and carried on as I always do and the next compliment I said to him I pictured him in my mind taking a swing at me, and you know what. he never said a word, he quite simply smiled and said thanks. And he didnt' appear uncomfortable at all.

So hun I know where your coming from, not all people can handle the compliment, but don't forget those of us who do the complimenting only want you to know you deserve the kind words. Simply say thank you and smile about the kindness.

Cars that is a cruddy way to start a convo hehehehe you put pressure on the person to respond back with some lame story about where they bought the shoes or how much they spent hehehe

And for chatty persons like me you may even end up with a full dialogue on how shoes were intented ahahahaha so beware what your wanting

Minks, you crack me up.

I'm usually the one giving compliments, since that's my job. I usually respond to compliments by saying, "Thank you, that was kind of you."

I also hate when people say, "I've heard all about you!" I've tried, "I hope it was positive." , "Was it good?" and "Don't believe everything you hear." but I hate all those. So now I say,

"Thank you, that was kind of you."

I hate it when someone I've never met says "you look so familiar". What do you say? "I'm not" ?

Or when someone I worked with in film says "what film did we do together?" (I don't know, got about two hours to go through our resumes?)

This actually happened to me today, someone I've never met said they "Know" me

not look familiar, know me. They were insistant for over an hour, as we were at the same function. It was really strange, getting close to point of almost uncomfortable!!! :-5
