I have a friend that has a security box (fire/water proof) and yet everything in it is getting moldie. He put a box of baking soda inside the security box to absorb moisture but it did not work.

Anybody have any suggestions on solving the problem!

I hope this helps..... I learned this from my grandmother "the Pack_Rat".

Everything inside your security box needs to be placed in an envelope inside a sealed plastic bag. The envelop will keep the melted plastic off the contents in case of fire/heat.

Thanks, that's a great start. I'll be sure and tell him that!!!

Great idea from BTS as it seems moisture is getting in somehow. I would guess that the temperature isn't being maintained which would prevent mold from growing about 72 degrees. Also humidity should be between 40% and 60% and mold won't grow.

Send his bills over to my house, I'll gladly wash and iron them.

if it's the box itself growing mold (solid surface) then he can try cleaning it with bleach.

he can also put some charcoal in there too because charcoal absorbs moisture and odor.



otherwise tell him to buy a new box! :wah:
