On Meet the Press this morning. I'll post a vid as soon as I find one available.
I think that's the final nail for McCain.

I knew he was gonna endorse Obama. Did you get a chance to see Palin on SNL last night? The web comedy site 23/6.com gave her an F.

This is a major endorsement. Regardless of political affiliation, Powell is a type of person that has earned respect from a lot of people.

I agree he is one of the few credible endorsements that I'm paying attention to.

I guess it is much easier to decide who to endorse when you wait until 16 days before the election and go with who is highest in the polls.
Sorry - the endorsement would have meant more if he had made it a year ago. One really must wonder, at this late date, if he would have backed McCain if the polls did.

What would he possibly have to gain at this stage of his life, no matter when the endorsement was made. He's 71, comfortably retired, has enjoyed fame and through books, fortune.

It's simply hopping onto the winner's bandwagon. Unprincipled but it lets them shout "we won" instead of "they won".
America truly needs to wake up and see the cliff edge it's about to run off if it elects Senator Obama. The only possible sane vote is a vote for Senator McCain's ticket. Absolving the Republican Party by putting a Democrat at the helm before the ship hits the rocks is just going to let them back in again later. They need totally crushing for a lifetime. That involves them being glued to the tiller and forced to finish steering the course they set their country on.

What a putz. You still don't get that we're not the UK. Party politics is different here. Our "two" work as a team. Obama can run us off a cliff just as ably as McCain.

Bill Bennett's radio show is trying to discount Powell's endorsement as just another black endorsing Obama just because he's black. I'm forking disgusted that even he would sink so low!

Yes and I think McCain has a lot of gall since he's been friends with Powell for over 25 yrs. Smacks of desperation.

Don't know who bill Bennett is but this was on the link.
And he isn't even elected yet! Barack Obama says that he wants to "improve America's standing abroad," by which he means suck up to the Europeans. But in every tangible way, the policies he advocates will damage relations with allies and lead to diminished American influence. Nowhere is this more evident than with respect to trade.
How can anyone possibly think GW bush has done anything for americas standing abroad? Osama bin laden probably died laughing in saudi arabia somewhere.
Barack Obama's promise to unilaterally rewrite the North American Free Trade Agreement if Canada and Mexico won't go along with his ideas on labor and the environment has not gone unnoticed in Ottawa. If Canadians are going to have a tougher time selling their goods and services south of the border, who can blame them for looking east -- across the Atlantic to Europe.
What about all the treaties bush unilaterally abrogated
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington ... s-usat.htm
Bush's new foreign policy vision "has largely amounted to trashing existing agreements without any clear idea of what to put in their place," the newspaper said.

Bennett served as United States Secretary of Education from 1985 to 1988 under Reagan. He also held the post of Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (or "Drug Czar") under George H. W. Bush. Now he's a neocon pundit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Bennett
from the wikipedia article about him.
BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either,... But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could ... abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.
Subsequently, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, as well as civil rights groups, condemned Bennett's statements and demanded an apology. President George W. Bush said Bennett's statements were "not appropriate."[13]
Bennett responded to the criticism saying, in part:
A thought experiment about public policy, on national radio, should not have received the condemnations it has. Anyone paying attention to this debate should be offended by those who have selectively quoted me, distorted my meaning, and taken out of context the dialog I engaged in this week. Such distortions from 'leaders' of organizations and parties is a disgrace not only to the organizations and institutions they serve, but to the First Amendment.[14]

I heard the program that day. I reads far different than it was said, and was clearly not meant as anything but the most extreme, over the top, off the wall example he could think of, in response to another slightly less stupid remark. Was the whole context there or just his remark?

The whole context-I just picked up on the remark. I've never heard the guy so I have nothing to judge it against.

The immediate ones mentioned here - him saying Powell endorsed Obama only because they're both black. Before a True Believer jumps in, I can't say I specifically heard Bennett say that, but he definitely grunted agreement when a caller said it.

Disappear off the face of the earth after the heat gets turned on by the press (famous pencil pushing general or not) and then return when you want to hand the presidency to a liberal socialist and think I'm going to respect that endorsement?
Think again.
Maybe it was embarrassment at being conned in to going along with the invasion of iraq.
