I was going to go away for half term holidays in my lovely caravan, stay at a nice site in Devon, my brother and his family were going to be there too so some time with my nephews would have been lovely, until.....
..... the piggin' gear box on the car is buggered, best part of £1000 to fix, no vehicle to tow the caravan so no holiday.
Guess I'll just have to do housework and annoy everyone here instead!

Hubby and I were disappointed like that last summer. We had planned to use our camper to go the mountains, had reserved our site, and then, hubby had his heart attack. Well, we just had to postpone it........that's all. Hubby is doing well and we will be paying the hospital big bucks for his "repair".

We took our vacation time anyway, we just stayed home and relaxed. We did go the Zoo one day that week.
How about just a change of plans, Immie? Is there someplace close to your home you could visit and enjoy?

I remember once, myself and brother hired a van to go to see "The Stranglers" at Reading Rock Fest, so we could sleep in the back.
Returning home the following morning, a scorching bank holiday, the alternator went on this hired van in a little village called 'Compton' near Guildford.
The one shop was closed as was the pub, it was in the day's before 24 petrol stations, and there was nothing. We phoned the A.A. and they said as it was bank holiday and so hot, they we're manic and they'd be at least 5 hours.
My brother was in his leather jacket, I had a punk pink Mochican and i suppose we looked really scarey.
After sitting on the side of the road for about 2 hours, this very posh lady came out of her beautiful cottage and we assumed she was going to tell us to clear off.
They ended up, welcoming us into their home. She cooked us a full English Breakfast, gave us use of her bathroom and toiletorie's, let us use her phone, made endless cold drinks as it was so hot, all while her husband looked the van over to help before the AA got there.
I have never forgotton that.

Garage told us today that it's definitely the gear box and that they're prone to going on this model at around 50,000 miles! If we'd known that we'd have sold it before it got there!!!:-5:rolleyes: Still maybe it'll last another 50,000.
But all is not lost, it's still going to be half term, we'll just have to do other things, go to the cinema, shopping, laze in front of the tv eating popcorn - it's not all bad news:D

autos always go to poop at the wrong time. well when is there ever a good time.?? the cars built today. i feel are slapped together as cheap and as fast as possible. Craftsmanship and pride has taken a nose dive. My husband being a mechanic by trade. Hates the new cars. No shade tree mechanics any longer, for something minor it has to into the shop. It is like the manufacturers and the shops are partners in crime:sneaky:
