Being scared has nothing to do with owning a gun. There are many reasons why some own guns.

One of my best friends is a retired U.S. Secret Service Agent. We go every once in a while to the indoor range and bet a lunch on who will have the closer grouping of shots. All good fun.

I don't own any, they scare me. I too have a couple of baseball bats around, but having a 140lb Great Pyrenees and a 75lb Chow, I feel safe and can't imagine anyone trying to come in or hurt us, they are both protectors.

I know how to shoot a gun, (well shotguns and .22 rifles), but I don't have one as I don't go hunting. We don't have handguns for personal use in Ireland, neither do uniformed police officers, and thats the way I want it to stay.

Being a southern girl who has lived on a farm all my life, it goes without saying that i have a gun and know how to use it!
my daddy taught me how to shoot a rifle and a shotgun when i was 16, and my husband bought me a handgun a few years ago and i have a concealed weapons permit to carry it with me!

No, I don't own a gun but think that I might like to have one for protections.
My area does seem very safe..surprisingly.....
But, one never knows who might be popping into your home in the middle of the night

I use to own a gun. A handgun. That was many years ago. Now that the gun ban in San Francisco has been successfully challenged in court....I may now get a gun. I just have to decide what gun I want. I really need to go to the shooting range and "brush up". I have not shot a gun in a long time. I am sure it is like riding a bike....but still...if you own a gun you should be familiar with it and know how to use it.

Cricket is an obscure game played by the soft southern part of this island-not as obscure as baseball though. Do you still have the world series in baseball where you play with yourselves?:sneaky: or is that in what you call football where you play with odd shaped balls dressed in armour?

Yup, we are playing with ourselves right now in the WORLD SERIES.:wah:
We are also in our armour playing football season where 300 pound men run into each other at around 30 miles an hour trying to take each others heads off. Thats why they need armour but feel welcome to come and play a game without the armour if you wish, best bring William Wallace and his buddies along for subtitutes though if you decide to play it that way.

I know you jest a bit here Yzgi but it struck me that a lot of American people seem to be worried about intruders, i have lived in this house for about 19 years, i dont bother to lock the door until i go to bed & i go out quite a lot, never once have i been in the slightest bit concerned about anything happening to me or my house. If i was, i would move. I find it really hard to understand how you can live somewhere that you do not feel 100% safe. What quality of life is that?
Can someone please explain to me why you choose to live somewhere that you dont feel 100% safe?

Honestly Buttercup, I don't remember the last time we locked our doors. Friends and family come and go at our house all the time. If I were scared where I live I would move also. I live in a small town outside a large town so we don't have near the problems as the larger city does. I just looked at my keys to see if I had a house key on it, yes I believe I do but wasn't even sure.

I did not mean you so much Yzgi but you have to admit a lot of American people (on this forum, i cant speak for the whole country, just what i see here) SEEM to be worried about intruders or trouble or feel the need to have a gun because of that.
I find that quite worrying.

Yes lots. In fact I own an ammunition manufacturing company. Here are some pictures of my daughter practicing Her gun control. She turned seven at the beginning of the year and I purchased her a youth sized 22lr rifle foe her birthday. Her is a pic of Her first time firing it. It was driving me crazy for months until it got into the 50 so we could get out side. Until now she has had a crossman BB gun SHE named her deer rifle.

Don't own a gun and have no desire to own one. I find them to be violent and do not agree with the NRA at all....especially their freakouts about banning AK-40's or whatever they are. They do not belong in peeps hands...what good is that kind of gun when hunting? I can see hunters having guns, but not the general population. I do however have a burgler alarm system...thats enough plus we have a aggressive dog next door who's always up at night & outside.

NOpe, and never will. Not that I think others shouldn't but I just don't care to have one in the house. My father was a police officer and he always left his weapon on the dining room table. My brother and I were prohibited from touching it but we always knew it was there. It frightened me as I knew my Dad was in job that required that he carry one which, as a child, made me worry for his safety. I still get shivers thinking about him leaving the house and straping on his holster. Just a phobia of mine I guess.

Of course I see your side of the argument. Ignorance is bliss.
She is Seven by the way. And unlike most children know not to pick up guns they find and play them usually ending up with a dead kid because some ignorant jackass had a gun sitting around were an equally ignorant kid could get to it.
1) Stop
2) Do not touch
3) Leave the area
