What happened in your life that snapped you into the act of adulthood ?

When did you feel all grown up ?

I had my womb removed, think thats what done it.

Apparently in victorian times a hysterectomy was seen as a cure for hysteria, hence the name. Certainly calmed me down.

Wombs can be a horrible inconvenience and yes I do believe they cause madness.

Im grateful I dont have one.

Around 15 years ago when me and hubs had a row and I didnt threaten to pack my bags and walk. Instead I sat and listened and talked and we worked out the problem. I think it stemmed from him leaving a pair of socks on the floor:-3:-3o:o

Also not being embarrassed over bedroom stuff with my hubs which finally totally ended about 8 or 9 years ago.

Then of course theirs the little matter of extracting what feels like a sideways watermelon from your front bottom now that single act really makes you feel grown up:D

when I got wed, had kids... forced in2 adulthood... growing up sucks:D

Watermelons will do that.

I understand about the listening and realization that we will disappoint others and they will disappoint us but the bigger picture is to be considered. The work we put in is good work.

How did you get over the bedroom stuff, what was the process in your mind ?

They say fallopian tubes will cause madness and hysteria as well.

Age 27 when my son was delivered by emergency ceasarian, in the weeks after I realised that although married I was doing this all alone, he could be relied upon for nothing.

I can see where that would be extremely sobering but look where its getting you.

Youre self reliance is this beautiful thing.

I was never one to pay much attention ... to anything. One day I realized that people were listening to my opinions and showing me respect I hadn't expected. I figured I'd better start trying to act the way they thought I already was.



I got used to it after awhile but I still screw it up sometimes.

Getting divorced. Although happy to do it, it was a strange place to be.

I was all of 19 when I had my daughter. Becoming a mom makes you and adult very quick I was responsible for another human beings life.

I'm like a car transmission with two speeds, childhood and adulthood. I like to shift back and forth. At my age, when dealing with DHS or SS people, I often find it advantageous to be in childhood gear.

When I was referred to as a middle-aged man.

I grew up very quickly when my sister was born. Soon afterwards, I came back to Northern Ireland to continue school. Mum and dad were still living abroad, so I had to stand on my own 2 feet very quickly.

It's an experience I'm extremely thankful for

Exactally CARLA, becoming a dad at 20 & one month, suddlenly made me all "Growed" up"! I then worked twice as hard to keep my good job, and even harder going to college at night to further my goals to secure my family's future!

When I saved a friends life.

Back in my mid 20's a whole bunch of us were camping and with camping comes a lot of drinking. We were set down for a steak dinner about 25 of us when my best friend started to choke and everybody thought he was being his usual clown self when I realized he was seriously choking. I jumped up and could not reach all the way around him to squeeze him so I pounded on his back as hard as I could for what seemed like an eternity until that piece of steak dislodged. It was right then and there that I realized I had to grow up, I had to stop drinking, I had to be responsible. All sorts of things ran through my head... for me it was time to change from stupid young adult to mature adult and be smart about life.

I was 17.

Me and dad were standing at the front door. He threw my bag he had packed down the steps then shoved me out the door.

I was on my own.

But I wasnt ready to grow up.

That wouldnt come until much much later.
