I seem to remember Truman being counted out in a news paper headline once before.

I am hoping so.

CHICAGO Could this be "Dewey Defeats Truman" II? A New Mexico paper hit the streets this week with a headline in red declaring, "Obama Wins."

The New Mexico Sun News is a bi-monthly, and decided to roll the dice on the Barack Obama victory for its issue dated Oct. 26-Nov. 8.

"When it comes to calling the winner of a presidential election, everyone wants to be first," an editor's note reads. The New Mexico Sun News hereby claims that achievement."

The self-styled "special collector's edition" of the Sun News was reported by CNN chief national correspondent John King in his "political ticker" blog.

King describes the paper as a "liberal-leaning alternative newspaper" and added that the editor's note ended by asking readers to vote, "even if we did spoil the ending for you."

I reckon this election was in the bag for Senator Obama the day the Republicans tried to creep the electorate out over the Democrat Convention tickets having that stylized stars and stripes melded into the image. If that was how low they felt they had to stoop then they'd already lost.

It's not that easy, you can't make such predictions based upon polls... especially in recent years and especially for a Democrat.
