Let's solve the world's problems

There's too many issues polarized by groups with no overlap. ForumGarden has the potential to provide third solutions which satisfy everyone's needs and break the logjams.

Let's start with that missile defence system in Poland. What's it for? Defending against Rogue State missiles if they start to fly. Why does Russia object? Because they have exactly the same structure and contents as a forward site targeting Russian missiles, providing the US with a potential first strike capability unless the Russians install anti-missile rocket launchers close by in Kaliningrad.

The ForumGarden Solution is a simple one. Staff the missile defence system in Poland with Russians and embed the facility into the Russian command chain. That way if Rogue States launch missiles, the missile defence system will promptly bring them down, but there's no chance of them neutering Russian facilities.

Everyone wins. The US saves on the staffing costs, the Russians save on outfitting Kaliningrad with massive anti-missile batteries, the defence against Rogue State missiles comes into existence.

Long live the spirit of Glasnost within ForumGarden's discussion areas, comrades.

I had things to do. I was watching Adam Sandler and John Turturro's edgy sociological dissection of Israeli-Arab relations. Setting aside the occasional moments when misplaced humor intruded on the discussion, a great deal of it made sense. Perhaps Adam Sandler could be found a place advising the new White House on ways to bring the two sides into meaningful dialog - he wrote the script, he didn't just act in it.

Were going backwards here. No one needs this **** right now.

If we put an anti missile defense system in place in Poland of course Russia will respond. We would, anyone would.

We have higher priorities at the moment. Id really like to progess beyond revisiting an issue that was laid to rest years ago.

Taunting Russia is a bad bad move on our part.

Stop now before the jack asses feel like they have to save face and it escalates. Russia isnt our pool boy or our whipping post.

I was on Skype to some Polish buddie's yesterday. They are pretty scared by all of this. They feel stuck in the middle of Russia and America where they are 'the pawn'. They don't want this.:thinking:

Theyve been stuck in the middle for a long time now.

They deserve freedom.

Hello? Everyone? This is a US initiative, you know. This isn't the Evil Empire Soviets pushing this agenda, this is a US base being built in Poland as we speak. By all means cancel it but don't go blaming anyone else for the problem.

Absolutely Sir!! These are very close friends of ours and we just don't know what to say to the some-times. Of course, the threat from Russia to Obama has heightened their fears. I believe they speak on behalf of many Polish folk when they say they are scared for their children. They all too well remember the invasion of Germany but for now, they just want peace. :(

For the average Polish Joe trying to eke a living, they don't care if it's Russia, America, Britain or Monaco... They just want peace.

Then he should talk to his Polish President, the chap who discussed this with President-elect Obama and claimed afterwards that President-elect Obama confirmed to him that the construction would continue, something President-elect Obama immediately denied saying. I think the Polish President is pushing hard to have it done, regardless of what his average Polish Joe would prefer.

If they had their way in Poland, they would have a referendum but of course that will never happen. As from when, did they ever actually care about the Polish people??

Do you have any link of the Polish president saying that Obama confirmed the constuction would go ahead? Or a link where Obama denie's saying this?

Who's "They"? The Polish leadership? Lech Walesa used to be President, you can't possibly think he didn't care for the needs of the Polish people.

US President-elect Barack Obama has not given a commitment to go ahead with plans to build part of a US missile defence system in Poland, an aide says. He was speaking after Polish President Lech Kaczynski's office said a pledge had been made during a phone conversation between the two men. But Mr Obama's foreign policy adviser, Denis McDonough, denied this.

Russia opposes the US scheme and has announced plans to deploy missiles on Poland's border as a counter-measure.

I'm just wondering if the denial is true. I suppose as with everything about Obama, we can only wait until after the 20th January. I am surprised that any one has so much faith in what a future leader say's. We are used to sharks here in Britain, i always think, I will believe it when i see it. Obama can not be another Maverick. He will be led by advisors who are quite capable of going back on their promises as is he.

In-between time, the Polish citizens, sit and wait.

My history of Poland is not that great i have to admit. I can not remember though, a time where Poland was the aggressor.

Polish folk feel stuck in the middle and they say they have done for a generation. Naturally they rely on American investment to boost the economy but my friend's say the American's can keep it for all they care. :(
