Biggest difference is a written offer and acceptance is binding the exchange of contracts is a minor formality so don't do what you do in England and offer for several properties if they are all accepted you could have a problem on your hands.
The offers system is different as well-property if on sale at offers over, there is then a date for all bids to be in and the vendor can pick the one they want. onece accepted it's yours so make sure you have an agreement in principle in place.
There is no freehold or leasehold either it is all feudal. tenement also means somethimng completely different as well-as does close come to that.
