Welcome to the hotel Pam! You can do all of the above that Kay said plus let's shake stuff up.

Dancing on the furniture is widely encouraged after a few rounds of champs.

Dancing to great music is even better.

Blimey !!!!!!!!!!! All worn out from lugging suitcases.. I curl up in a corner to take a kip and it's blooming party time!!! YAWN! I'm awake now. I mean - there's Carolly with a Mike (and a Chris) purring out tasteful cabaret numbers in commemoration of the wonderful Eartha Kitt. Duckie has unpacked the table and is dancing a feathery fandango. Kaylene is up a gumtree playing a didgeridoo (didn't ya hear what happened to our Nic when she tried this??? I mean really!! It's men's business). Odie is wearing a very chic little nurse's outfit and seems to be trying to revive the men who are appalled, outraged and aghast at the didgeridoo playing. Or am I still asleep and dreaming?

I did fall asleep actually yesterday at Manly beach. In a nice shady spot, after my swim, propped up against a rock.. woke up to camera flashes.. and a bunch of Chinese visitors pointing at me and laughing. Well, this of course happens to goddesses and stars... Anyway, it turned out that on top of the rock, just above my head, a large waterdragon was posing in all its magnificence. There are a lot of them around right now.

Did someone say champers??????????????????????????? What an awesome welcome!!!!!!!!!! Thank you all !!!!

As fer brownies... well okay. I'll bake some. But wouldn't you rather have some of my famous New Year almond shortbread??? Goes wonderfully with champers and fresh strawberries? This afternoon I will be baking that really!! And will bring some in here for your collective delectation.

And the brownies too with and without nuts, of course.

Look Odie, in Pam's Place - there is no absolute obligation to be politically correct. Have real fur - it's loads nicer than the fake stuff. But we won't take it from little critters we aren't going to eat, OK?! :sneaky:

In fact, in here, I think one ought to be as un PC as possible. And I believe and even know that I am unanimous in that!!

Gotta do some work then I'm going out in search of some Weapon of Mini Destruction - last night there was a mosquito in my room and very soon it is going to die!!!! I'm not cruel - I don't want to bite it once every half hour, or keep it awake, or make it itch. No no. I just want to get a tiny uzi and nuke its little balls off - except of course it's probably a female so doesn't have danglies.. but bald or ball-less she's history. And if I gotta live up to me principles and eat what I hunt, no problem, already.

I have a few American and also European friends who hunt. They are all ethical hunters and this, as I understand it, means a clean kill and you eat what you shoot. I'm gonna hunt the ^&%%$# mosquito, so I guess I'm prepared to eat it... of course it's been eating me.. so in a sense I'm shedding my own blood, and eating the varmint is gonna be a kind of self cannibalism.. ERK.... Um... Lemme see. Maybe I can use one of the other arguments for lawful killing. It's self defence, right?!!! I mean I'm terrified, and if it continues to vampire my vital fluids, I'm gonna expire.. so I can use reasonable deadly force to clobber the blighter..... yeah I like that. OR there is the goddess defence, your Honour! Some lower echelon creature has dared to offend the majesty of my lofty personnage and this lese majeste is punishable by death. The mosquito shall be taken from this courtroom to a place of execution and hanged by the neck until it is dead. Nar..that's no fun! I'm gonna splat it.

Now that's a bunch of good songs, Carolly... I've just been bawling out Mountain Thyme and may hafta take that one into the shower with me this morning, for the full bathroom acoustics rendition - though I did detour onto Tom Lehrer.. which is a dangerous pursuit..

YouTube - Tom Lehrer - We Will All Go Together When We Go

Oh, the summer time is coming,

And the trees are blooming,

And the wild mountain thyme

Grows around the blooming heather.

Will you go, laddie, will you go?

And we'll all go together

To pull wild mountain thyme

All around the blooming heather,

Will you go, laddie, go?

If my true love, he won't come,

I will surely find another

To pull wild mountain thyme

All around the blooming heather.

The barmen in here are always super hunks, but in a masculine kind of way, not the hairless, buffed pouch posers you see gazing at themselves in mirrors in gyms. ..

Yes, Duckie! I go there every Sunday, and then some. Very crowded this time, and it stays that way there all summer - at least till the end of the school holidays in early February. The ferries are totally full. There are dozens of pubs etc at Manly - and I have no idea how to recognise your niece if I did see her. I expect she's having a great time there. If you can tell me where exactlyt she works and when... I'll try to go and say hi.

My sister has a place in about the middle area of the main surf beach - a bit to the north of the Corso. I surf when she's there, but otherwise there is nowhere safe to leave stuff on the beach. So instead I walk round the cliffs to Shelley Beach (there's a colony of fairy penguins there) - it's a family area and very nice. This time of the year all the water dragons and goannas are out, frolicking. Large lizards.

Gee Kathy - I do seem to have changed, but the surroundings are neat!! Grin. And thank you for the champers.

I went out to dinner last night - and you wouldn't believe it - there was total deep and meaningful religious discussion all night at the table. From a whole lot of points of view, and nobody threw any punches. Grin. Or started quoting a trillion cut and paste verses like a broken record on repeat. Or got upset and stomped off slamming doors. Good fun was had by all. And a few drops of good vino too.

....

Interrupted here by phone call from crazy red haired sister... I'm meant to be working but we're going to do lunch. Gotta run.

Hi Pam, I brought you a Canadian Beaver, they are Canada's mascot!

They can be found in rivers and streams. Just up the road we have a family of them that have live underwater in their den....Once they swim into the den, they are on dry land.

He is beautiful, Odie. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've seen the dams built by beavers but never been lucky enough to spot an actual animal there. They are amazing.

It's going to be a hot day today!! Might head for the local beach (about 15 mins drive) and take a dip. The roads round my apartment block close at 4 (including for residents) so we barricade ourselves in before that. Grin. Oh the joys of New Year's Eve.. (Actually I love it - the milling crowds all dancing and singing - and we get to celebrate first in the world, I think).

I've baked the almond shortbread. There is champers in the fridge. And strawberries too ($6 a punnet, they better be good!!!). And got in some steak for this evening (it's gonna be Thai beef salad with udon noodles).. All welcome, but ya better arrive mid arvo. Bring party hats, dancing shoes, swimmers and yer jarmies - you'll hafta sleep over!!!

Streets are full here already. Barricades are up. A trillion people have spent the whole day in the hot sun to secure their fireworks viewing places. I got frisked coming home. (He was big, black and drop dead gorgeous and can frisk me any time). This was in case I was smuggling booze into the area. (You can buy it, but not bring it in). I wasn't, though if I had been I would have had to drink it on the spot, and could have offered him a glass too... :sneaky: But I digress Cars (of the driven variety not the delectable Floridian who likes to have the last word ) ceased to be allowed in the area round midday. It's now 4:30. Bunches of drunk kids all over the place round the ferry terminal at Circular Quay - and they are all English!! Go figger. Probably there's bunches of drunk Aussie kids getting ready to celebrate noisity in London too. They are seem to be wearing teeshirts with stuff like NYE Sydney - Drinking Team and the St George Cross. ???????????????? A big convention?????? The ferries stop round 6pm, so wherever you are by then, you stay. Happy Days.

Thanks for the pic, Chezzie. And Happy New Year to you too. Guess I better git in the shower and dig out me gladrags. The party starts early... and probably won't finish for a while..

If by any chance 2009 gets cancelled - I'll pop in here and let you all know!!!!
