Not taking into account friends and family....Just think about you personally.

Last night i was reading Hawthornes short stories. one of which was ' Dr Heidegger's Experiment".

It's about a learned man who gives his learned friends an elixer from the fountain of youth then sits back and watches their behaviour as they become young again.

Thing is They "acted young again" ........................ with all it's emotional and physical connatations.

So how do you think you would react to being young again knowing what you know now?

Do you think you would do things differently?

Do you think you would 'think' differently?

I don't think I would have thought any differently ........I may have tried a few more adventurous things. I may have pushed to do 'achieve' a little more vigorously. Or would I? Would you if you had your time over again? ?

what say you people of forum garden?

Interesting topic:

I don't think I would act younger, but I think I would appreciate the more youthful openmindedness I seem to loose as I age.

I think I would explore more, and most definately live a ...mmmm I would live life more simplistically (is that a word).

You see I grew up in the land of Gluttony. In my prime this city and province were in the greatest boom ever. In the 80's we crashed hard and we survived and sadly we did it again (these past couple of years). I still await the crash and I would have thought we learned our lesson 20 years ago.

I don't live the high life currently and find less is more and that is something I am glad I myself learned from the first.

With the fountain of youth does this give us our time back too so we would get another 40 50 50 years back? Oh goodie then I can think of many a wonderful things I can teach my grandchildren. Simple things like going out to the garden and getting a little bit of dirt and looking at it under a microscope, or going for a hike and telling them what a certain flower is or what kind of animal droppings we encountered. I would gladly share my love of exploration and maybe I would take it to greater lengths for myself.

Beyond that I think I would carry on much like I have.

Having a younger body does have it's advantages. But hindsight is 20/20, and the wisdom of experience does have advantages as well.

I've had some wonderful experiences in my life, but I don't think I want to live it all over again.

If I found the fountain of youth I'd turn it off at the spigot and cover it over with tarpaulin and build a false floor over it and bury it under a couple of feet of concrete and turn it into a car park, and then I'd go round breaking all the bottles people had filled at it. The entire notion's unchristian if it works and it's a scam if it doesn't. Either way it has to be stopped.

If I found the fountain of youth I would pass it by. Yes, I'd love to be younger, but that doesn't always mean better. It would mean I would change things and decisions. The road I have traveled has gotten me where I am today and is a part of who I am. I probably wouldn't have married my first hubby...but then I wouldn't have my oldest daughter, thus, I wouldn't have my grandson. All my decisions have led me to the love of my life and thru this love we have the most wonderful 16yr old daughter. I wouldn't do anything differently.

it's good that Omni got involved in this thread and said what she said .........Omni could I use you as an example?

You see you're not classed as old by societal standards but you still have 18 years of built up experiences in which you've dealt with a certain way ...............if you were to go back and have that day again .............would you change it? Do you think you have the capability within your personality to change it.

I ask you this because this is one of the questions or points made at the end of the story ............

1. Ones' personality is so fixed by the time he reaches his midteens that nothing short of a miralce would change it.

I thought about this for a bit and I sort of agree . The desicions we make are based on our upbringing (and 'genes', I hate using that word but it does play a part in some respects) How would we be able to change this if we became young agian? sheer determination ? Would we get sucked into life and family and love again ?

3. the fact that a person would want to relive his life is evidence enough that his life has been unsatisfactory.

Hmmmm I thought about this as well .............some of the best decisions I've made in my life have been brought out by my own personality...............but so have the bad ones, the unsatisfactory periods of my life were brought on by personality traits that I hold. so what would be different if I did it all over again? I can't change my personality.First i would have to remember 10 again haha... however i would say if i could be 15 again... omg all the things i would of done differently... 15 through 17 is def years i would relive and change... but then again i'm who i am now for living through and making the decisions i did at those ages....

I guess i would like to be 30 again. but be the person. i am now. Caring for the things that really matter. Not the parties, or the STUPID things. That matter to me the most back then. But there is no way to turn back the time. I will try to make what counts in life. be first and foremost in my life from now on.;)
