How's This For Nostalgia?
All the girls had ugly gym slips?Mine was Navy Blue and me knickers were:wah:
It took five minutes for the TV to warm up:wah: and to have a tele was wow!!!
Nearly everyone's Mum was at home when the kids got home from school...
Nobody owned a purebred dog...
When a shilling was a decent allowance....
You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny? Gawd the times I did that;)
Your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces?
All your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done every day and wore high heels?
You got your windscreen cleaned, oil checked, and petrol served, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps! :-4
Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?
It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents?
They threatened to keep kids back a year if they failed. . . And they did it!
When a Ford Zephyr was everyone's dream car...to cruise, or watch the boys lol ... And people went 'steady!
No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked?
Lying on your back in the grass with your friends?
And saying things like, 'That cloud looks like a... '? Oh the simple things were the best.
Stuff from the chemist's came without safety caps! And hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?
And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savour the slower pace, and share it with the children of today...
When being sent to the head teacher's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home.....that stays in my mind big time lol.
Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.
Also Summers filled with bike rides, cricket games, Hula Hoops, bowling and swimming at the pool.
Don't that feel good, just to go back and say, 'Yeah, I remember that!!!
Who can still remember the Coronation, Mr Pastry, 6.5 Special, The Army Game , Sunday Night at the London Palladium, Emergency Ward 10, the Lone Ranger, Hancock's Half Hour, Trigger and Sergeant Bilko.
Sweet cigarettes.....Oh I loved them and lemon sherberts,:-4
You're never alone with a Strand.Still remember the music to that lol.
Coffee shops and Pubs with Jukeboxes. I have my own Juke Box now from those days and so I live my memory of that all the time.Watching that record go down is the best feeling ever....oh I did some daft things back then:)
Blackjacks and bubblegums :-4
Home milk delivery in glass bottles with foil tops.
Newsreels before the pictures......Oh I can still see that in my mind:-4
Telephone numbers with a word prefix...(Mayfair 3489). Party lines.
Peashooters. :wah:
Andy Pandy.
Hi-If's & 45 RPM records.
78 RPM records! :yh_rotfl
Green Shield Stamps.:wah:
Comptometers.
Scalextric.
Decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'?
'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest?
Catching tiddlers could happily occupy an entire day:wah:
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was'chickenpox'?
Having a Weapon in School meant being caught with a catapault?
Saturday morning television wasn't 30-minute commercials for action figures.
Spinning around, getting dizzy, and falling down was cause for giggles.
The Worst Embarrassment was being picked last for a team?
War was a card game?
Cigarette cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle?
Taking drugs meant orange - flavoured chewable aspirin.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon lol
If you can remember most or all of these guess yer old like me:wah:;):-4

milkman was on horse and buggy, delivering bottles of milk and as Carolly said, foil tops, we used to take the cream off the top.

The Queen's Coronation was two years before I was born.
The girls used to tuck their skirts or dresses into their knickers. This was at infants and juniors, not at seniors where they had proper gym slips. The boys all wore shorts until they went to seniors.
Slippering up to juniors and caning at seniors. I never got that myself though I was spanked by the head once at juniors.
One of us got the mumps and we all were made to get it. Funnily enough, I never caught it.
We used to make hides in the woods. We were able to play in the roads. We used to have play areas where the swings, roundabouts and iron horse were usable.
Didn't like letter prefixes on telephone numbers. Often had to guess the third letter and you lost your four old copper pennies if it was wrong.
Mum had a washing machine with a spin-drier. Before that, she had a copper boiler. She always used the copper stick, as it was called, to threaten us (though she never ever used anything other then her hand across the backs of our legs).
Everyone seemed to be in cub scouts or brownies.
I remember the first episode of Doctor Who.
Silver top, red top, and gold top for extra creamy.
I still have my parents 78s. I do have a 4-speed player. Does anyone know what 16rpm was used for (Spot excluded)?
I used to be able to go exploring with no fear of being kidnapped.
Saturday morning cinema, or I could go roller-skating among other things. Dr. Kildare. Perry Mason. Coronation Street never changed its characters. Hancock's half hour.

Yup, I've done the tadpoles thing. And worms and caterpillars. Mum drew the line at ants though. She used to have enough problems with them.
Next door to us in Torquay used to have a cockerel and chickens. I miss it even now calling out first thing in the morning.

Where have the years gone?
Contributed by: Evelyn Catron on 11/29/2006
The years are going quickly now; my face and arms sure show it!
My brain is getting wrinkles too and this is how I know it:
I find I must be cautious now when stating things I know.
Though I am sure I'm right, I find, it isn't always so.
I put my keys right there, you see, but now it's time to leave,
They're gone!...and where they've vanished to I simply can't conceive.
I paid that bill!...of course I did! My mind's eye sees it still.
So why am I receiving now a "second-notice" bill?
That lady's name, I'm sure, is Claire; we met not long ago.
How come when someone calls her "Jane", she answers with "Hello"?
I have five kids (I'm sure of that)...all grown and on their way.
Their birthday cards I won't forget...but which one goes today?
My shopping list I craft with care; no bargain's ever missed.
I'm in the store; I have the cart; now where on earth's the list?
Computers are a joy to use; mine keeps me very busy
Until the moment of thecrash that gets me in a tizzy.
My kids have shown me many times just how to win that fight.
But though I try just what they taught, I seldom get it right.
My calendar is near the phone and easy, there, to see.
Each square has notes so I won't miss just where I'm s'posed to be.
So why am I now forced to call my oldest, dearest chum,
To say, with shame, that once again, "I just forgot to come."
There seems to be no end in sight to instances like these.
They spring so quickly from the mind and from my keyboard keys.
If I can list so easily the things Idon't recall,
Why then are there so many things I don't recall at all?

Before the Internet or the PC or MAC.
Before the drug war and crack.
Before chronic and ritalin and dysfunctional.
Before SEGA or Super Nintendo.
Before.....
Were you born before television, before penicillin, before polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, plastic, contact lenses, Frisbees and the Pill?
Were you born before radar, credit cards, split atoms, lazer beams and ball point pens, before pantyhose, dishwashers, clothes dryers, electric blankets, air conditioners, drip-dry clothes and long before man walked on the moon?
In their time, closets were for clothes, not for "coming out of." Bunnies were small rabbits, or dust balls under the bed, not Volkswagons, or Playboy girls. Designer Jeans were scheming girls named Jean or Jeanne, and having a meaningful relationship meant getting along well with our cousins.
Fast food was what you ate during Lent, and Outer Space was the balcony of the Rialto Theater.
We were before house-husbands, gay rights, computer dating, dual careers, and commuter marriages, day-care centers, group therapy and nursing homes. We never heard of FM radio, tape decks, electric typewriters, artificial hearts, word processors, yogurt, and guys wearing earrings.
For us, time-sharing meant togetherness -- not computers or condominiums, a "chip" meant a piece of wood, hardware meant hardware, and software wasn't even a word.
In our time, "Made in Japan" meant junk, and the term "making out" referred to how you did on your exams. Pizzas, MacDonalds and instant coffee were unheard of.
All the boys wanted a roadster, and if you didn't have a Duece or A-bone, you weren't "in". And the best place to be with your gal was in the rumble seat when you double dated.
In our day, cigarette smoking was fashionable, GRASS was mowed, Coke was a cold drink and POT was something you cooked in. ROCK MUSIC was Grandma's lullaby and AIDS were helpers in the Principal's office.
We certainly were not before the difference between the sexes was discovered, but we surely were before the sex change, we made do with what we had. And we were probably the last generation that thought you needed a husband to have a baby... We got married first, then lived together! How quaint can you be??
It is no wonder the younger generations are so confused and there is such a generation gap today!!
But WE HAVE SURVIVED !!!!
What Better Reason To Celebrate???

Loved playing 2 balls against the wall with various chants, one being 'play me balls ice cream, turn around ice cream and so on. There was another version which consisted of sticking a tennis ball in one of your mums stockings and whacking it against the wall.
We also used to play ambulance tick which was a bit like murder ball but whichever part of the body the ball hit you had to hold until someone set you free.
Oh and Knights on White Horses which was like knock-a-door-running, except you had to run along the kerb pretending you were on a horse - if you fell off (or got pushed off) the kerb you hadto go back to the house you knocked at.
Who needed playstations! :yh_rotfl
We played one called "Peep behind the curtains" and "May I?"
May I? was a weird one, having to ask someone if we may move a certain amount of spaces and then having to do an impression of a tomato while moving.
or something like that. lol.
When i was at lower school we played a game called Orange Balls.
We all skipped in a circle singing:
"Orange balls! orange balls! here we go again, the last one to sit down gets a boyfriend!"
Then whoever sat down last goes away for a minute while we all decide who her boyfriend is.
She then stands in the middle, we tell her who her boyfriend is and then we skip round her singing:
"cross your heart if you love him" x4 [she has to do the action]
"stamp your feet if you hate him!" x4 [she does the action if its applicable]
then "lay down dead if you want to marry him, orange balls!" [she lays down if she wants to marry him]
and that was basically the game.
We had a game called Bastard, where we'd split into two teams and pick a word. We'd each get a letter of the word and then the other team would have to chase us and force us to give them out letter. There was rules such as no hitting, but it often go out of hand and people would kick you or pull your hair. Awww, memories
We did skipping and rounders. Oh yes, and conkers and scraps when they were in season. And hopscotch and the Farmer's in his den, and Giant Steps and Baby Steps, and What's the Time Mr Wolf......................the list is endless when I get to thinking about it.
The farmer wants a wife:D
One kids gets to be the farmer and stands in the middle, the rest hold hands and dance around him singing. He chooses a wife who joins him in the middle, the wife chooses a child, the child chooses a nurse and the nurse chooses someone to be the dog.
The farmer wants a wife, the farmer wants a wife, E I addy O, the farmer wants a wife
The wife wants a child, the wife wants a child E I addy O, the wife wants a child.
The child wants a nurse, the child wants a nurse EI addy O, the child wants a nurse.
The nurse wants a dog, the nurse wants a dog E I addy O, the nurse wants a dog.
We all pat the dog, we all pat the dog E I addy O, we all pat the dog.

I brought a glass jar to the forest, with holes in the lid, there were thousands, I just scooped them up in my hands....mom and dad always thought I should have been a boy.
THEN, I bought two white rats! Dad made me this gigantic cage for them, tons of room for them to explore, all kind of things to go inbetween....then the female had babies......I had no idea she was a girl and he was a boy! I quickly read up, and we placed the male to his own part of the cage which dad then sectioned off, otherwise he would have eaten them!:sneaky:
I would take them outside and they would play in the grass!
but watching the tadpoles ever so slowly turn into little frogs was the best experience for me.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeaaaa all them:yh_rotfl well not orange balls:-3:yh_rotflour knocky nine doors was just knocking on a door then running and hiding,,, but one we used to do ,,, cant remember the name was to put some string through the door knockers,, all along the street all joined up,,, then hide round the corner and pull the string:yh_rotflit was a major operation geting the string all along without getting caught but worth it to see all the doors opening at once:yh_rotfl eeee we were naughty sometimes:yh_rotfl
