Blood Donations

Post by Kindle »

This afternoon I'm off to donate a pint of blood. It is a valuable gift to those that need it and doesn't take much more than an hour out of my day every other month.

Who else gives this gift of life?

I go fairly regularly and have since the Clapham Rail disaster in 1988 - I was working just across the road from the Blood Donor Clinic and could not justify not going.

I have given blood a total of 38 times. I sold it for $25 when I was a poor student in San Francisco and in the military to get a day off. Most of the times were just a straight donation.

oooooops...I do feel very guilty...thanks for your post kindle its given me the jolt I needed:D I used to give blood when I was younger then I had children and just got so busy with them then got tied up with fostering but really that not a good excuse:-5 I will ring our local blood bank when I get back from holidays and get my butt up there and start donating again:D Wonder if there is an age limit though:thinking:

Here's some additional info for you donors.

I was deferred today because I had, within the last 4 weeks, received a shingles vaccine.

Not a big deal. I'll just go next month, but I will be telling my doctor and her nurse that it might be a good idea to advise other patients, who received this vaccine, of this restriction.

Thanks for posting this Kindle. I've never donated blood and have been talking to my hubby about it quite a bit. I need to call them because of all the medications I'm on and all the health problems. It's a wonderful thing to do and my dad did it religiously until he got cancer...he was a great role model.

Being on medication is not a problem.

You can be overweight, but not underweight.

You cannot be low in iron.

Blood pressure must be within limits.

You need to be feeling good and not running a temperature.

It is alot easier than you think.
