This question has never occured to me until today when i changed handbags.

You can tell a lot from what a lady classes as an 'essential item' in her bag or even indeed, what men carry in their packets.

I was mocked cruelly today when i changed bags and Mr O saw my 'essential items' included

A screwdriver

Blue Tack

A portable ash-tray

7 ciggerette lighters incase the first 6 don't work

Pain Killers

5 lipsticks because a woman must always have a choice

safety pins

Dog Poo bags

A pic of Gordon Brown

Nicotine patches

Baby bel Cheese's

Spare knickers

I have to confess that my handbags do seem to get larger.

I always forget my licence but that's on purpose so if a police officer pulls me over, he has to write out 'a producer' for me and that waste's their time. It also causes extreme dissapointment to the officer when you later turn up and show your documents all in order. :wah: yes, i know it's cruel.

The screwdriver is after a true story here in Britain when a train broke down and the driver asked the passengers over the intercom if anyone had one on them. :wah:

You do realize that if you lived here in the 70's you could have been on a show called "Let's Make a Deal" where people dressed up goofy and had all sorts of stuff in their bags, and if they had said item you could go onto the stage and play for money, etc.:wah: Your bag sounds like the ideal thing.

I don't carry a handbag at all, except if I'm going to a 'do'. I always wear a 'bum bag', and the emphasis is on 'wear' - then it leaves two hands free, and also it would be very difficult for anybody with ill intent to grab it off me, as I have mostly all that is soooo important to me in my life, in that bag! Gawd, do you really want me to list all that stuff ffs ????

For a number of years now I have been downsizing. I buy the smallest of purses and carry small items within so that I'm not pulled down by the weight of things.

To have all that I truely need, I have a tote bag in my car. When I get to a destination, if there is something more than what is in my purse that I need, I either transfer it or carry it by hand. Sometimes the tote goes with me..........

Just a word of warning hunny. You do know that if the Police searched your bag you would be charged and fined for being in Possession of and Carrying a Deadly Weapon? At worst you could get a criminal record and may even be sent down. Considering your current run-ins with the law I'd honestly leave the screwdriver at home and also the ash tray if its heavy. The bobbies won't act in your favour if they find them. Just a thought. :-3

Let the train driver get help from someone else. ;)

This is like the alphabetical party game...in my handbag I have...lol! :wah:

I have:

my (Winnie-the-Pooh) purse containing:

credit cards

store cards

taxi numbers

Shakeaway points card :wah:

In Emergency contact card

Donor card

notes (money)

change

stamps

train pass

ferry timetable

vets card & emergency number

hairdressers appointment card

dentists appointment card

eye test appointment card

favourite pub card

Hampshire Police crime number card

some proof of postage receipts

safety pin

and a winnie-the-pooh charm

In the rest of my bag I have:

a pencil case containing:

pens (several colours)

pencils (grey & coloured)

ruler

number line to 20

rubbers (erasers!) :wah:

felt tip pens

pretty stripey paper clips

a flower clip

a tissue

a marker pen

pencil sharpeners

dice

counters

a marble

gluestick

a selection of 'smelly' reward stickers :wah:

I also have:

a brush

powder

lipsalve

a necklace

a chequebook

a notebook

a hair clip

a hair scrunchie

a pair of blue fluffy gloves

some Christmas chocolates

some ladies stuff :lips:

a packet of tissues

a packet of Aspirin

a packet of paracetamol

a packet of metformin tablets

a mobile phone

a small packet of wetwipes

keys on a keyring

some bills that need paying

some receipts

3 birthday cards - for my daughters 16th birthday tomorrow

1 is a 'noisy' card - it's Cartman from South Park shouting Happy Birthday

1 is a cute card with pressies on for my son to give her

1 says Happy Birthday Dear Granddaughter, which is for me to forge my mothers signature on. I'm sorry but she sent her a really ugly card of a pink outline of a girl on a grey background. That's it! It wasn't even sealed, just had the flap tucked in. She's too good at disappointing my kids, so I'm replacing it with a pretty card and I'm going to put some money in it for her.

I've also got a flashing 'Happy 16th' giant badge

aand.....rather disgustingly......

a slice of stale cake wrapped in paper towels! :-2

I normally have a cuppa soup for lunch, but last week I was hungry and had a school dinner! (Luckily it was baked potato day! Normally school dinners are to be avoided at all costs!) :wah: Anyway, for pudding I was given a slice of bakewell tart which I didn't want and so wrapped up in paper towels to take home for one of my kids. Thanks for starting this thread as I've now rediscovered this cake (now rockhard!) and binned it. God knows how long it might have festered at the bottom of my bag otherwise! :wah:

Why is it that men can discreetly carry wallets and briefcases, while we women carry HANDBAGS and POCKETBOOKS and FANNYPACKS?

What are we..................beasts of burden?

At worst you could get a criminal record and may even be sent down. Considering your current run-ins with the law I'd honestly leave the screwdriver at home and also the ash tray if its heavy. The bobbies won't act in your favour if they find them. Just a thought. :-3

Let the train driver get help from someone else. ;)

Good advice but it's too small to be classed as a weapon (I think )

The ash tray is a little tin one very much like a powder compact.

Besides, for plod to have the right to search my handbag, I'd have to be in the act of a crime. Even if your pulled over for a motoring offence, they don't have reason to search your bag.

Now, you see, you may laugh but these colours are obligatory. :o

We're no longer allowed to mark in red as its considered a negative colour. Marking is now done in green - a nice gentle conservative colour! :-5 We're not allowed to put an 'x' next to a wrong answer either. The most you're allowed to put is a dot which means you must revisit that point with that child later on. (Putting an 'x' is negative and might make the poor little darlings feel they are failing ...or worse still.....that they gave a wrong answer! Shock! Horror! :-5)

If a childs writing is so poor that it is illegible, then you need to transcribe the sentences underneath the childs work. However, you're not allowed to write in green, because, of course, it's a marking colour! :o

Sentence work, for children to copy, is done in black ink.

And I occasionally use blue to rebel! :yh_rotfl

So, you see, there is method in my madness. Or should I say, method in the mad rules we have to work under?

Okay, I agree with what you say but will also point out that house keys can be considered offensive weapons as can combs with thin metal handles. Regardless of its size I do think it could be described as a weapon and I'm sure a judge would hear 'weapon' if it came to light. :-3
