I fear that some of our American friends are a touch oversensitive at the moment and seeing anti-US sentiment where it does not exist.

No, really Bryn, it has been there. I think that is what the glitch has been here lately, many are afraid to post sometimes. (I know I have not posted much, because it does upset a person, and hurts their feelings to read it) It has lightened up lately, but next time there is something we see, I think it is a good time to discuss it. It might be totally different perceptions of a statement or phrase, and there is a lack of understanding on both sides. I think it would be a good idea to have a discussion about it, and not a debate. Then people feel defensive, and the subject itself is not resolved.
That is what makes FG a unique place-a multi-cultural forum. I think since we are all good friends after all these years, we could talk about it, if it happens again. This idea should go for anyone.

No-one should be afraid to post their opinion and I really would be happy if we could discuss this lack of understanding.
I have seen a lot of anger about the abuse of power, both by Israel against Gaza and by the US against Iraq, but I cannot say I have seen personal animosity against Americans.

But, now, everytime I pop in theres yet another thread thats goading. It's getting boring and tiresome in my opinion.

I agree Betty...think that's why it's hard to post in FG.....
But, I do think things will get better and we'll start having some fun...:-6
We have a new member here named "Leave me Alone." We can party at his flat.....Unfortunately, our party ended early tonight as the American football games came on at 6 tonight.

Perhaps it is certain non-Americans that are being 'overly sensitive' hearing the feedback.
I've every right to decide my opinions about what is being posted - I see the posts and I see the responses and, in my humble opinion, the Americans are being oversensitive.
We see a different perspective on the world news over here - we see the death toll in Iraq and Gaza and the film of injuries caused by white phosphorus and the lack of due cause and yes, we are angry at what is being done in our name. If we call it as we see it then we are accused of being anti-American and against the American people.
Sorry, not true.
I am anti-war. The war in Iraq is illegal and unjust. The war in Gaza is not war, it is massacre.
How does stating this become anti-American - does the war in Iraq or the support of Israel define America?
Just as you have the right to your feelings, I have the right to mine and they say that the war is wrong and should be fought wherever it is supported.
Does that make me anti-American - I do not believe so.

I agree, very boring and tiresome..
Real conversation has moved away from the garden, that's the real shame of it, IMO.
It's great that the OP doesn't profess to hate Americans. It might even have been worth the space he used up writing that had he not posted about fat and stupid Americans within days of this post.
Not to worry though.. he's someones pet, so much more important to the place then the members we've lost lately... let's all rush to reassure him that it's just fine being an ******* because he has issues. That sends a nice positive message to the other ******** out there that it's free passes at Americans here in the garden..

No, it does not make you anti-American at all, Bryn.
I think sometimes when discussing the war in Gaza, there are layers not discussed yet, and I think most of us shy away from it. I think that is one reason, more reticency on our parts, because it will delve into religious ideology, political policy, and various other topics which might be considered off topic but would explain our viewpoint. So, we are afraid to add those components to make a more rounded discussion, to see what the American opinion about Israel would be. (conflicting news reports alone would make an interesting thread on that topic also)
You have every right to your opinions, as do we all. I think it is not that thread alone we were refering to, things have shown up on multiple threads. I think as our number dwindle, I think back to AC, he had some valid points at the time-and then we sadly were afraid to speak out. I think we have passed that point, and are looking for a peaceful garden, full of the discussion we have always had before, but more understanding back and forth between us all. The blame is partially ours, for not saying something when we see it-the conflict within ourselves at causing a disruption in FG, and then letting it "slide" has led us to talk about it now.
I have nothing but respect for your opinions, Bryn.

If you wish to really believe that I think all Americans are fat and Dumb then please go ahead........
I believe in what America stands for and not what it's become, if this hurts your feelings on a personal level there is nothing I can do or would wish to.
A lot of members are very sensitive... I believe we all should accommodate this in the best way that we can.
Oh, you don't hurt my feelings at all, I consider the source, when it comes to you. It would be admirable if you had the balls to keep one name, be the same person when you flit to and from the garden, dropping your little crap bombs and then leaving all traumatized when folks get fed up enough to call you on it rather then pretend its okay because they think you are new or you haven't crapped on something important to them yet...
How about giving us your bigoted views on folks that have strong religious belief, dear... let's let some of the newer folks see just how sensitive and unoffensive you can be when you really put your heart into it..
There used to be rules about multiple user accounts here. Perhaps if those rules applied to you too, others wouldn't sit there wondering why folks are so sensitive when they call you on your crap or don't automatically give you the pat on the back of encouragement you advertise for with these threads once you do get called on it.

I think so too. That, I think comes from America being so insulated within itself. I remember. But when they come out from under the bed, and see the world for themselves, that sensitivity lessens with time. I remember that too. The trick is to listen. And view the world and it's inhabitants with new eyes and understanding.

You, certainly, are prepared to discuss deep differences without feeling you're under attack :-6
I find it very hard to understand the attitude of some who appear to think "disagree with the actions of our armed forces and you insult us all, disagree with the actions of our government and you attack us all" regardless of what is being disagreed with or why.

when we went to war the 2nd time ,just after 9/11 ,my daughter lives near there and i never knew if she was alive or dead ,i thought to go to war on the facts i was given at the time (WMD ,stock piles of nerve gas etc)but now knowing the true facts i admit i was wrong
then thats where things get blurred here ,even though my army is fighting alongside your army ,every time i talk about the war i get accused of being anti american ,when my daughter is american and i have lived there and plan to again one day
