hello and welcome to another vent your spleen session with grumpy

and i will save the best for last.

A BITTER dispute over the use of foreign workers on a multi million-pound construction project spread across the country today.

A decision to bring in hundreds of Italian and Portuguese contractors to work on a new £200million plant at the giant Lindsey Oil Refinery at North Killingholme, near Immingham, North Lincs, led to protests in support of jobs for Brit workers.

Several hundred demonstrators gathered for a third day outside the plant following a walk-out by contractors on Wednesday before the protest ended at 10am.

But the unofficial wildcat strikes also spread to other parts of the UK, including Scotland and Wales.

Hundreds of workers at the giant Grangemouth oil refinery in Scotland walked out following an early morning meeting.

Unite said mechanical contractors at six other Scottish sites were also taking industrial action.

And cops were called to the Aberthaw power station near Barry in South Wales after around 50 workers staged a protest.

Around 400 workers also staged a demonstration at the Wilton refinery in Teesside.

well well the chickens have come home to roost and do i recall some comments in my column that this would never happen WELL IT HAS !!!!

without mentioning any names THIS IS THE REALITY OF TEFLON TONYS EURO SUPERSTATE MASS IMMIGRATION POLICY .......

we have foriegn workers taking british jobs leaving british workers on the dole taking british homes benefits etc and this can only strengthen the cause for parties like the BNP.

you where warned that by voting labour that there would be an open door immigration policy you where warned that british jobs and britsh industries would be affected you where warned that a blair labour government would sell us out to unelected brussel euro crats did you listen ? did you nellies !!!

the country put its trust in teflon tony who betrayed this trust and ran away to a position in europe and left gordon brown to face the wrath at the ballot box.

labour have got more chance of winning another term than doncaster rovers have of playing in the premier league oh yes they did send in the bully boy police but that didnt work.

REMBER THE ADVERT NEW LABOUR NEW DANGER!!! well its just come back to bite you on the wotsits and i suppose the next party in will have to clean up and reverse the years of labour decline.

I think its totally understandable that ordinary British workers would feel angered if they think that companies are just giving jobs to non-British workers because its cheaper or whatever other economic reasons they give. Its the same in all EU countries. They have a right to strike and protest the companies decisions and I fully support them in it.

There are provisions in EU law that accept that in times of economic distress countries will try to protect their national labour markets, thats understandable. Its my guess that this will be resolved quickly enough. Total will simply have to back down on this, its too politically sensitive.

Its funny, they were sneering (as usual) at the French on the BBC last night (Newnight, tut tut chaps your more educated than that) and predicting the impending collapse of France and the EU in a wave of strikes and the end (yawn) of the Euro; then I wake up in the crazy Euro-zone and what do I see? British workers out demanding their rights, does this mean the UK is in imminent danger of collapse and the pound is finished? Ho hum. :)

There is also a raft of EU legislation that protects workers rights, however Mrs Thatcher and John Major made sure that British bosses don't have to follow any of those laws, with her famous opt outs (which were presented as a "victory" for Britain, but in fact were only a victory for unscrupulous fat cat bosses, patriotism eh?)

Also, the rights of workers to seek jobs across the EU also works both ways, so when people from Humberside take on contracts in Bremen I hope the Germans are a little less reactionary about it.

My final general point about this endless boring argument about Britain and the EU would be this, your being lied to constantly by your own establishment about the EU (who basically constantly use Brussels as a scapegoat for their own failures) and as for your right-wing press, well we all know the agenda there. The basic fact is that the EU is a force for good, most other Europeans are happy to be part of it, (despite the problems and issues involved in it, of which there are many of course), and membership is actually of huge benefit to Britain its not "a German racket" to quote Tebbit.

Also, membership is voluntary, if its that's bad for you and you just can't stand it anymore, just leave it and build a 45 foot high wall on the south coast, no one will shed many tears at this stage, I assure you, though personally I wouldn't be pleased to see the U.K. leave.

If you did leave, you might find you will want back in sooner than you think though. :-6

Some people think Enoch Powell was right, well De Gaulle certainly was.

This is not about the EU, its about companies exploiting their own workers as usual, and the EU thing is being used as a red herring to deflect attention away from the fact that the rights of ordinary workers in Britain have been undermined for decades, not by the EU, but by the British government in hoc to big business, just like America.

By the way, Crash Gordon is in Davos today lecturing other European leaders about "protectionism" (as usual), while people are on the streets in Britain carrying placards with Gordon's own quote from 2007 about "British jobs for British Workers". Do you spot any hypocrisy in there at all? This is what happens when you start playing to the gallery with populist nonsense. Go Gordon.

Which is why we are now seeing british factories in multinational corporations being shut down before their continental counterparts even if they happen to be more efficient. All in the interests of keeping Britain competitive while we switched to a service economy.

I notice he's keeping the chancellor out of the way, mind you he really does look like a muppet.

No doubt we will now see oil tanker drivers going on strike flexing their new found muscle and really screwing things up even more than they are.

This is our country Milkennie, not theirs, but we keep forgetting that.

I tell you one thing, BIFFO needs a kick up the arse, and by god is he going to get one soon. Bring it on.

Did you hear what the deputy Governor of the Central bank said about making pensioners pay for their free travel, this from a man who earns several hundred thousand Euro a year for not doing his job, all paid for courtesy of the tax payers.

What friggin planet are these guys living on?

My suggestion, lets fire some people in the Central Bank, the Regulators Office, The Department of Finance, and our (soon to be nationalized) banks, and get some human beings back in charge of the country. :-5

I don't know why we always elect really bad looking fellas to be Taoiseach, maybe we should elect a hot looking chick next time, though we don't have to many of them in the Dail either. Loaf of Bread

Mars Bar

Litre of Milk

Block of Cheese

Tin of John West Tuna

etc etc

Just wondering. In truth galbladder and i can not lie... I have absolutely no idea of such things. Yes i know i'm a woman and i am supposed to know these things but i don't. Ask me how much my sister paid for her latest designer handbag and i can tell you but these basic requirements are a mystery to me and i intend that they remain a mystery. One reason that i have no idea is i do not waste my valuable time queuing in supermarket checkouts. They are nasty places full of working class people with germs. Mr O does all the shopping and i don't even know which cupboard it goes in as he does must of the cooking as well. I write lists and that's my main contribution to the house. If i am going to fess up, i might as well add that i have no idea of how to empty the vacumn thingy or even how to turn my dvd player on. I know how to put dogs leads on, light ciggerettes, pour Bailey's Irish Cream into a glass, how to get knots out of Persian cats and how to order a Daily Mail.

However, i will take a guess:

Loaf of bread? hm could you please be more specific? Are we talking about that white sliced pap that people with no taste have beans on or are we talking Granary loaf, seeded loaf or fruit loaf? I think a loaf of granary bread costs about £1 something. If we are talking about the freshly baked bread we buy from The Turkish shop in the Fishponds Road in Bristol then it depends if you have it plain, with olives, garlic etc etc.

Mars Bar?........ never eat the shyte.

A litre of milk? What's a litre please? 4 pints of full milk costs about £1 something.

Block of cheese? Please be more specific. Are we talking Brie, Fetta, Creamy blue danish or what? we don't buy any of that English yellow stuff that looks like my mums custard and tastes like wallpaper paste.

Cream Crackers? What are they?

Tin of John west Tuna?........ I have no idea as we don't have anything out of a tin. I do know that two large fillets of smoked haddock is around £6.

I can also tell you that a tub of Italian green and black olives with garlic is approx £3 in good quality deli's. £4 if you want sun dried tomatoe's in them.

Loaf of Bread

Mars Bar

Litre of Milk

Block of Cheese

Packet of Cream Crackers

Tin of John West Tuna

etc etc

Just wondering.

The shop i care-take is a fast food out-let that sells kebabs, pizza and burgers. My job is to read the daily Mail and speak Bristolian to local folk should the Turkish, Iranian, Greek and Pakistani staff (who come over here and nick our jobs) can't understand the lingo such as 'Awl right my lover? I got a brand new combine arvester' and similar nonsense. On occassions i have had to call the police and window fitters when the yobs are on the rampage. I have to do this as Turkish folk are useless when it comes to telling the local police they are useless and telling the window fitters that we'd rather like the windows replaced by the morning please.
