Mind over matter, has it ever worked for you?
So many times over the years, I have realized that sometimes mind over matter does really work.
I find that in our minds, we tend to have a control button which makes us think of crazy thoughts, mental issues, tendency's to be what we are not normally like.
I for one use clonezpam before I go to bed......now, there have been nights that I have forgotten to take it......and slept fine..........even though I have taken this drug for years and it no longer has any effect on me, I still use it.
My physician even said, if its mind over matter......and it works for you......that is a good thing.
what things have worked for you that are mind over matter?

Disrupting what the mind is focusing on works.
How do you do this, you ask? Think of a purple cow. Picture it. I personally dress it sometimes with a red hat and veil.
By doing this, you begin to relax cause your mind is now focusing on something else entirely.

These things are very true, I also have a relaxation tape that works, but what I meant was mind over matter.

I've never thought of focussing on a cow, Kindle. But disassociation techniques work well for me in most reasonably normal discomfort situations. For instance, I only have injections etc at a dentist if they are taking out a tooth. I focus off the pain onto something like floating on the sea.
Faced with an unexpectedly nasty ski slope, I find singing helps. This takes the mind away from panic and also has the benefit of putting your body into a rhythm - altering the odds in your favour about getting down the slope, on your feet. Irish tunes work very well - even sung in manic mode... I suggest Rickety Tickety Tin for slopes which you didn't see till the point of no return carried skull and crossbones signs.

That's something different too, Odie. Like if a person is feeling right down .. sometimes any action is really hard, but if you can force one little step, maybe out the door. Do something. Take a bath. Smell a flower. Turn on the radio and sing along. That little step somehow breaks the downward spiral. I know a lot of people who suffer from depression are encouraged to keep a diary and put in it, each day, a couple of small positive things. I laughed at a remembered joke. I felt a breeze on my face.. sort of thing.

My mother lives by "Mind over Matter" we grew up hearing this every time there was a challenge we had to overcome, or an obstacle in our lives. It does work and it does get you through many things. If you put your mind to something anything is possible.
I use mind over matter every morning just to get out of bed. :yh_rotfl Then I use it again once I get to the office. :yh_rotfl

"Mind over matter" (or cognitive blocking) is an escape from your present condition. In children it can result in multi personality syndromes later on.
Be careful that you are not blocking out everything all of the time . There are circumstances in which you need to take account and be alert and take on what the situation (unfortunetly in some circumstances ) has to offer us.
You can actually do yourself damage by not confronting the purpose in which your body and mind are re-acting to.

Thats my technique. If Im involved in self destructive thoughts or patterns of thinking that lead me away from my intended goal or general purpose I shout stop in my head then redirect my thinking back towards a more useful direction.
Refocusing.
I tend to have a short attention span (surprised ?) so I may have to do this many times.
Its not so much that I cant stick with a project, Im self motivated but I can wander internally.
The more you practice what works for you the more you become that thing.
Thats my technique. If Im involved in self destructive thoughts or patterns of thinking that lead me away from my intended goal or general purpose I shout stop in my head then redirect my thinking back towards a more useful direction.

Also if you could hold in those "DELORES ! If Ive told you once Ive told you a thousand times the bologna doesnt go in the cheese drawer" until you can get to a stairwell I think others might find you more approachable.
