Be on the look out for this quote "Summer of Hell" in the mainstream media then get back to me when you hear it.

We can have a side bet if you want? :)

I absolutely guarantee you're wrong and I'd be delighted to take you up on that. What test do you propose by which we can decide the bet as to whether "this is what it will be called in the future".

There's a news source, Nexis, which has many "mainstream media" for reference.

Here are the counts for the word "summer" immediately next to the word "hell" ignoring small link words like "of". Obviously some will be different expressions to "Summer of Hell" but they ought to be a constant background noise above which anything so obvious as a name for Summer 2009 will rise easily, the way "Summer of Love" did for 1967.2009 so far: 10

2008: 76

2007: 193

2006: 111

2005: 85

2004: 77

2003: 97

2002: 86

2001: 59

2000: 56By contrast, "summer" and "love" appear together around 2000 times a year.

Shall we say you win if either 2010 or 2011 have a count above 400? That can be decided on January 1st 2012 just in time for the major test.

While we're at it, what would you want us to use as a test of your dire 2012 predictions? The world ends? At least half the planet's population dies? Aliens irrefutably make contact by mainstream scientific standards? Pigs fly?

You forgot to mention that Villa will win the Premier league in 2012, the Champions league, the FA Cup, and the Carling Cup that year. Martin O'Neill will be made the Prime Minister and Gareth Barry the Minister for Defence (against the aliens). :wah:

It's a very simple issue. If reality has any mechanism at all for allowing information to travel back in time then history would be recognisably very different to what it is. Secret societies and mass planet-wide conspiracies would run things, certain of their destination across centuries and guaranteed success in their ventures. That's not how reality works.

It's like the guff about previous prehistoric civilizations with technologies we can't replicate. Civilizations don't exist without prior agricultural domestication of animals and plants for which evidence would remain. Major extinctions of large land mammals would have occurred for which evidence would remain. Unnatural transfers of species and people between continents would have occurred for which evidence would remain. It's all make-believe, the lack of any such signals is definitive proof that it never happened.

The bump in those figures for 2007, incidentally, was because of the combination of Foot-and-Mouth disease and Blue-tongue in the British farming community. If you ask a UK farmer when the Summer of Hell was he'll remember 2007 for you. The smaller bump in 2006 was Harry Potter suffering yet another Summer of Hell with the Dursleys in the film review sections.

Yes I believe :)

I have no evidence of Pigs being able to fly.. well not in my neighbourhood anyway :)

If you believe that anyone who believes or just wants to take the possibility of ET life seriously is an IDIOT... then by all means you have that right.

you can twiddle with your numbers and I will bet you that the number will be more than 2000.

I will bet you anything you want.. or is this just another long winded slap in the face?

The winner gets to come back into the thread and say I told you so, what more could you want.

Meanwhile, what would you want us to use as a test of your 2012 predictions? How will we recognize you were right?

Ultimately it's something we didn't know before. evolutionary? technology?

A giant leap for Mankind....

So - just to be sure - we could go through 2012 and way past 2012 and not actually notice any difference at the time? Everything could appear the same in, say, 2013 or 2014 but eventually it would become clear that 2012 was the year things changed?

So, we'll get to 2013 and regardless of anything rational you'll just say it's different? Vaguely, inexplicitly, just like every other year is different to all the years that have gone before, but you'll be right because 2012 came and went and now it's all changed?

As far as "Summer of Hell" goes, did you not notice that I said it had been applied to 2007 and 2006 already? 2007 by the farmers, 2006 by the film reviewers? It's not a question of will anyone apply it to an event in 2009 because it's habitual to apply it to something every year. What you've claimed is that it will peak dramatically in references to 2009. One mention isn't going to get you off that hook, it's why I asked how many references it would take to make the description fit your claim of it being the future's name for 2009 in the way 1967 is now the Summer of Love.

Would you like newspaper quotes of the 2007 and 2006 uses? "only a few more months until someone utters the words"? Snake oil, all of it. The sad deluded aspect of it is you might even think you mean something when you write it.

Be patient it's a 16.4 Billion year process not even a wink of an eye to go..

I don't think it will be something unnoticed spot.... maybe the equivalent to learning how to make fire maybe time travel???

3 years gone 3 years to go.....

Will the mountains be laid low? Come on, let's have some detail.

Will the oceans of the world dry up and the dead walk from their graves?

The only reason you're so inexplicit is that you haven't a clue. Name me any year and I'll tell you in retrospect why it didn't pass unnoticed. There are no years you can't point and say "that was special".

Every millennialist in history has made claims and missed deadlines. You seem not to have even enough conviction to make claims, you just want the glory of claiming special insight and knowledge without the subsequent mockery of having missed.

That's what I assumed was the reference, and I thought it was very fitting.

If that's not what Themis meant, then it should be used to describe the horrors Australia is enduring this summer.

My condolences to you and all the Aussies on FG.

People have been writing here as though none of these fires have had natural causes. Most, I'd have thought, stemmed from discarded broken bottle glass in scrubland.

The changes that have been occurring both to the climate and the economic situation make this the most frightening time I can recall. It wouldn't at all surprise me if we have serious trouble this summer, especially if it is hot.

I just hope it's no worse than a few riots.

Don't run a car. My escape route out of London is along the Thames towpath.

Water may not be such an issue. We have lots, and after problems with leakage a few years ago they seem to have sorted it out. We'll see how supplies last if this is a hot dry summer. I do have a hand filter pump and don't see the Thames drying up just yet.... Wouldn't be very surprised if there's a hosepipe ban or some such.

Food is the one that concerns me, though I don't think it'll be a big deal for a few years yet. The thought of what happens to London if the food runs out is too horrible to contemplate. We haven't been able to feed ourselves in this island for over 100 years. That may have to change, and change soon.
