Legend has it that Yale University's ultrasecret Skull and Bones society swiped the remains of American Indian leader Geronimo nearly a century ago from an army outpost in Oklahoma. Skull and Bones is one of a dozen secret Yale societies, according to Gila Reinstein, a Yale spokeswoman.

Both President Bush and his father, former President George H.W. Bush, attended Yale and joined the elite Skull and Bones club. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, is also a Bonesman, as are many other men in powerful government and industry positions.

Members are sworn to secrecy, one reason they won't say whether the club has Geronimo's bones.

Now Geronimo's great-grandson Harlyn wants the remains returned. To do so, he must 1) prove that they do indeed have these bones and 2) identify the bones produced as Geronimo's.

What do you think his chances are of getting co-operation from Yale on this matter?

Wow, I went and looked that up. Phooey on Yale for such behavior, disintering the dead for a secret society. I hope the suit wins big time.

All so called secret societies including the Greek university fraternities are nothing more than that, fraternal organizations, of which there are many. Moose, Eagles, Elks, Masons, Knight's of Columbus, Rosacrucians, Lamda Chi, Alpa Mu etc.

You can include all the female secret sororities as well. They all have an initiation of some kind, many with secret hand shakes or ways to identify each other. This can be a great source of irritation to some that do not belong to one or the other of these organizations, believing that participants conspire, scheme and plot to nonmembers disadvantage. People that belong to the same organization will always have a bond with one another, whether the organization is secret or not.

Most of the so called secrets are no longer secrets are quite available with a Google Search. During my life I have belong to several secret societies or fraternities starting at age 10 with the East Side Boys Club, 10 of us ten year olds sworn to secrecy with our very own hand shake. Later-----Masonry, then the Elks Club, The Scottish Rite, The Shrine and during my working years The Kiwanis Club, a civic non secret organization.

All of these are quite harmless in my view, no matter who belongs to them.

People know of them, but not what goes on in them. The unknown is feared by many.

Sometimes........................... yes. Where is the line? That I cannot answer. It is always after the fact that people say they should have acted quicker. If everybody was all good and nice we wouldn't have to worry, but bad stuff is hidden behind closed doors. People need to choose well when they pick their friends and partners.
