Tonight my best Turkish pal and i have been in tears of laughter after deciding to take out the membership at the local gym. At this announcement, our husbands just looked at each other, raised an eyebrow and tutted.
We will be buying our flourescent pink leotards two sizes too small along with matching head bands. We shall have our handbags with us at all times which will hold a kebab, ciggs, lighter and coffee. We insist on a ciggerette and coffee break every 10 minutes. We want collecting from the gym after our sessions in a taxi where we shall go back to my friends house for a pizza and a lie-down.
For those not of a nervous disposition, i will post a pic in my leotard.

The gym is fun, especially if you have a friend with you. They have all kinds of classes besides the machines to use. I do the yoga classes during school breaks, it is nice and relaxing.

We also insist that our instructor is preferably young and Italian.

And when you don't know how to use the machines, make sure you pick one next to a cute guy.........................
When I get the older men using the bike next to mine, I take out my cell phone and start blabbing to my mom..................:p

Well, I don't look too bad going in-I don't wear tights, nice warm sweats in winter, shorts and tank tops in summer. I go inside in the winter so bundled up, but look better when the coats and sweaters are off-so the old men come and ride the bikes next to me.
I always leave by the weight lifting section-I don't lift a thing. I stroll nice and close to the hanging weight bag, and do a couple roundhouse kicks and a walloping back kick, swinging it their way, and stroll over to the tanning booth. The men always just stand there and look afterwards, at the bag and me............:wah:

I think that's a great idea, Oscar. Best wishes to you and your friend. I belong to a women only gym, which I love. Fine, fun, supportive people - and I love the classes. We do weights, yoga pilates stretch, combat, etc. Awesome.

However, i shall be cringing with embarressment as i don't even have a clue what the machines are for. I have done some martial arts in the past and i do run as often as i can but age is creeping up on me now.

Oh and the 60 ciggs a day don't help either

I do run as often as possible and have long walks with the dogs. My Turkish pal's husband tells us 'A woman without a belly is like a building with no balcony'.
We are starting monday and i'm quite looking forward to it now. :-6

At one time, we had special classes in belly dancing.. and it was a hoot. That's when a bit of undulating tum is a definite plus. In France the female 'balcony' by the way is definitely up a bit from the midriff. A good workout at the gym not only runs off excess 'steam' but helps you get a good night's sleep, I've found.
We have quite a lot of islamic members - mainly because it's women only. And they've developed their own comfy clothing which can also be worn in outdoor sessions. This month's Fernwood magazine had a feature about it.

This month's Fernwood magazine had a feature about it. Belly classes are on the increase here also as well as Indian 'Bollywood' dance classes. If it helps me sleep without prescription drugs it will be worth it. The gym is unisex and and another pal got in fantasic shape for her recent wedding at this place.

chonsigirl;1152728 wrote: Oh, that is a lovely incentive! You will earn it, Oscar! There is a place in Hertfordshire, England like a country mansion that is a health hotel. They do turkish baths, massage, facials.... the whole works. It's not actually that bad. It's £150 for the two days but when you look at the itinery and what is included in the price, it is so worth it.

There's one about an hour from me, in the Blue Mountains, Oscar. My sister and I try to have a week there each year. It's on a hill overlooking the Nepean River and in bellbird woods. Slightly seedy Victorian, which only adds to its charm. And there's every kind of massage, wraps, aromatherapy, a gym, aquarobics, bush walks.... I'm drooling just thinking about it.

It sounds the same menu as this place but except in miserable Britain :wah: and not sunny Aus and the Blue Mountains. It is just the thought of being pampered that makes me drool and of course you feel like like a film star. I can't wait and my friend is just soooo funny in her pigeon Turkish English accent. We'll have a ball.

I have no idea what a Turkish English accent is, Oscar... though there must be quite a few in Australia now. I was living in a residential hostel when I first went to Canberra to work, and I remember - vaguely - being at the welcome party there for a new resident whose special claim to fame was that he was the FIRST Turkish migrant to Australia, under the Government of the time's change of migration policy. Enjoy your spa.

I did put 'I love Gordon Brown' into your application and it was hilarious. I also got her saying Jumpin Jack Flash is a gas gas gas in Irish :yh_rotfl

A friend from Oklahoma City sent me that, Oscar - and I had a load of fun with it too. My husband not only had damned foreigners speaking English in fantastic accents - Basque works brilliantly, but he had damned English speakers of different persuasions trying to speak French and German. I'm only sorry there was no Irish Gaelic offered. Now that - in the mouth of a Czech or Chinese speaker - even a Turk!! - could have been most illuminating. The Australian accent was definitely a bit suss. Iffy intonation. We swallow half the words, Sport, and slur the rest. Saturday arvo lateish here - and I'm off to see the new, much panned Renee Zellweger (?sp) film. Take care.

Heck I've just remembered what day it is.... Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Pride Mardi Gras parade.. gonna be a jungle in town tonight... grin. And maybe a load of fun too. Though the parade's a bit tame these days. Big money got involved and took the edge off the alternative shock type atmosphere.... I once marched, by accident, in the New York parade. My family pretended I wasn't with them. :sneaky:
