We know Gordon has a plan and we have had some hints as to what is to be announced at the summit. However, it is Gordon Brown's plan and not Obama's. Other EU countries already look to be following whatever Gordey Boy comes up with but will Obama. Frankly from what i have seen of him so far, I believe him to be an arrogant Jerk who likens himself to Abe Lincoln and thinks he's 'The New Messiah' that is going to put all America's problems right in one term. Right now, even Obama's own team are beginning to question him.

To ignore Brown and the EU would be extremely foolhardy and America would be in the grip of another maverick and protectionism. That will destroy America and bankrupt them.

I just heard an even worse statistic, not only does America have unemployed people who are drawing benefits because of layoffs we have a lot of people who are underemployed. People who are working 1 to 3 part time jobs without benefits ect.

I just heard that may be as high as 15%, and rising. Quite right Scrat. i don't profess to being the greatest knowledge of international politics but i read as much as i can and do my best to get my head round issue's. I can also see what's going on here and liken it to your country as we were pretty much in the same boat.

Firstly..... I am all for bail-out. I don't see any other way out of total collapse of our economies. I support my own PM's bail-out and nationalisation of the banks in order for him to be able to regulate them.

Both our countries will suffer from job loss and we have our casualties here. However, our government has stimulated the economy by massive fiscal injection into the infrastructure which is creating more jobs across the country. Here, our infrastructure is in pretty good shape already. The governments spending on education, health and transport has always been the priority. I don't feel however that has been the case under the Bush Administration and Obama needs to adopt Gordon Brown's plan at the summit to do like-wise to create more jobs.

We too have folk having to carry out three jobs a week to pay the mortgage. Without going into our governments latest moves to help these people, for example, the freeze on mortage interest payments for two years for home-owners until the banks begin making money again, this is not as bad as America.

Gordon Brown has for some time been talking of an Internation baking refulation committee that he has already had talks with Bush over. It seems that all EU countries want to adopt this plan to ensure the collapse never happens again and that is my fear for America. I am not saying that Gordon Brown is the dogs bollocks and the world should be advised by him only but what i am saying is that he is the best we've got at the moment. If Obama's arrogance stops him from joining Europe then i fear America is really on their own up shyte creek without a paddle. We may be a tiny Island in the Atlantic but Gordon Brown is not a man to be ****ed with. Why are Icelandic citizens still sticking up posters with 'Gordon Brown's a Bastard' all over Iceland? Obama will get short shift from him if he wants to go it alone.

America's national debt is staggering and China who was the fastest economic growth in the world is now looking at hard times themselves along with Japan. The money could dry up and China could call in their debt.

Worrying times ahead.:(

Government involvement has been the reason this isn't a short term problem. Their blind efforts only drag things out postponing the inevitable while making the inevitable more ominous.

Many of our national forests are in danger of destructive fire because of our practice of putting out the small fires that would have kept the fuel load from increasing to dangerous levels.

The same thing is happening with the economy. If the government would let businesses fail the bad actors would be flipping burgers instead of heading large corporations.

Our only hope is for Congress to go on a two year recess while the President goes to CIC School while focusing all of his attention on keeping us safe.

Yes i agree and we have similar here with the bad businesses. One good example of this is the 100 yr old giant 'Woolworths'. They have just gone bankrupt but not after crawling to our government for a bail-out. Hats off to Gordon Brown for not giving them a penny and making them go under. Yes, thousands of 'Woolworth. staff have lost their jobs and i hear many whinge that it is the governments fault' Well, no, it's not the governments fault. Woolworths is a typical example of bad business practice by bad management and share-holders and director's. They made the wrong desicions, borrowed recklessly to diversify and compete with other major High Street stores to the tune of £90 million. Gordon Brown, his government nor the banks put a gun to the heads of these idiots and forced them into this kind of borrowing for expansion. It went tits up........ tough on them.
