I agree with the chancellor actutally. The ECB should be allowed to raise money on Eurobond rates, and use that to stabilize the economies of the Eastern European countries, otherwise all of the political gains that have been made in Europe since the end of the Soviet Era could be eroded.

In short all European countries including Britain should try to find a common position on what to do in this disaster, and to do it collectively as a group, to make sure that Europe in general comes through this as well as possible.

The basic fact is that all Europeans have a stake in a strong, peaceful, and prosperous European continent, and anything that underlines that undermines us all. Of course the devil in such things is always in the detail, so we shall see how they go about it.

I agree gallders but it looks like Britain and France will be the main countries who will be taking on the burden.

Well I would imagine the Germans won't allow le alliance Francais avec Anglais steal all the glory. In any case this situation we are in now is not one any country can deal with alone, I think its important that the ECB supports the pound actually, as the the pound is going to come under severe selling pressure in coming months, and a collapsed pound would be a disaster for Britain and the rest of Europe so something will have to be done there, as well as shoring up the east, also of course Ireland has managed to get itself into a pickle too so we will need help. Its all gone a bit dramatic basically.

In any case, I guess the main thing is that EU member states remain committed to keeping Europe stable and peaceful, thats the single most important thing, then getting the economics right, and then doing what's needed to help in the overall world situation, as we are all so linked now, its in all our interests to make sure everyone gets through this in some reasonable shape. On that score actually, your hero GB has a good grasp of the problems, though he is a little too wedded to the whole lassire faire thing for me, but at least he understands the global nature of the modern world, his grasp of domestic politics is a little less certain however.
