Body clock out of sync...

By my body's reckoning, it should be about 1am here now. So where the hell does my body think it is at the moment?

It's actually just gone 9pm as I write this. I'm actually 4 hours ahead of myself and feeling that way.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I have a very sensitive body clock. On the occasion last year that I had to do work at night. My sleep patterns went doolally. Couldnt sleep for days. Put a blanket over the curtains to keep out the light but didnt sleep for days, even though the work was pretty exhausting.

When I'm not working, after a week or so, I start going to bed later and later untill I cant go to bed untill 3 or 4 in the morning. So I have to kep myself very busy or at least occupied.

That was me last night. Couldn't get to sleep until gone 4am. Tossing and turning and getting up for pee breaks and smoke breaks from early morning till then. These alfuzosin tablets don't help none either. Bloody things work overnight and stop working through the day.

Every day I wake up at 5, whether I have to get up that early or not. Once my body's alarm clock is set, it takes weeks to fix itself. Darn time change last week.....:p

My last contract required a 4:30am wake up call. Perhaps my body's finally stretching back the elastic. My natural wake up time is about 8 - 9 am without an alarm. this morning I just about managed to get out of bed at 10:30. Mind you, I kept waking up at all hours of the night last night and didn't get a solid sleep until 4am.

That is not good for you, OM. I don't know what advice to give you, counting sheep never worked for me. I just lay there and toss and turn for hours.

if you can't sleep........don't stay in bed tossing and turning.

read a book, walk around, do anything different for 10 minutes...whatever was on your mind then leaves....then try going back to bed.

don't look at the clock.......when I used to work, I had my clock covered up, crazy....but it works.;)

I even have a tiny fan on my nightstand, if I can't sleep, that goes on, just listening to that gets your mind off of other things.

I just turn now and get up and check FG from time to time. Tossing just doesn't work for me.

Don't know what to say really.

I read before I turn out the light.

Sleep, then wake up about half hour later after a a hectic dream that I can never remember.

Read again and try again and then get up and log on to FG.

FG's usually quiet. No joy there.

Glass of water and back to bed and repeat the whole thing again.

Note: no tossing.

oh god, never log on to here if you can't sleep!:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

things not to do hours before you go to bed:

no caffeine

no hot baths or showers........people think its relaxes you, it doesn't, it pumps up your heart rate.

no heavy meals

no chocolate

no computer use!:-5:-5

no scary/intense movies.

if these don't work............the big one is next...that would be to set your internal clock back.

Ok. I'll cut to the chase.

I've been having sleeping problems since I've been taking alfuzosin hydrochloride.

I can see that I'm going to have a run in soon with my quack.

Isn't this a alpha1-blocker for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of BPH? It should be making you sleepy. Should you be taking this with your heart problems OM?

God knows, Carla. To be perfectly honest, I haven't had a lot of confidence in my doctor since I moved to where I am now. I am constantly on the verge of reporting him; especially since he dismissed a condition which concerns me and for which I went through a lot of tests for. He doesn't know what the last consultant told me verbally.

On the other side of the coin, I consider myself to be totally responsible for my health. In my mind, this means that my doctor is my advisor, not my dictator.

The alfuzosin tablets are for a condition other than my heart. Now, this has been picked up on by the consultants I have seen in Leeds.

I can't explain it all here just yet.

Believe me, my heart condition is very important to me not just in terms of my own life but also while I have my daughter. I won't go into it here, but this is another area that aggravates me as my desire to discuss the matter has been snubbed.

I hope you can sleep in tomorrow, I do not know if that will help your body go back into sync.

I have checked this drug out, there are no side effects that include restlessness...but perhaps it could have to do with a drug reaction causing this.....being on a combination of medications.

yup, time to see a good doctor and ask him/her.

Probably not if this morning is anything to go by. After 4am, I finally woke up at 10:30 or there abouts. I lost count of the number of times I had to go to the loo during the night. That's alfuzosin for me.

At least I haven't got to worry about work on Monday so I intend to work this problem through.

I go through periods of not sleeping, waking up, not being able to get back to sleep, or not getting to sleep for hours.......then sometimes waking up at 4 and not getting back to sleep at all.

Its frustrating as hell, but I have realized once my body gets so so tired, I eventually go back into my normal sleeping pattern.

stress, tension, being worried......so many factors for not sleeping.

even sometimes nothing at all on my mind, but I can't sleep.

how to get your body back in sync:

go to bed at the same time every night

set your alarm clock for 8 hours later.

---------------------------------------

no naps during the day

exercise daily

you will not sleep these 8 hours, but eventually your body will become so exhausted that you will.......took me 4 days of hell, but it worked.;)

OM, I have been reading about the amount of times you have to go to the loo in the night. pleeeeeeessssssssseeeeeee go to the Docs and ask for a PSA test asap. It is one of the very few signs of prostate cancer. You don't want to end up like Mr O who also had no symptoms except wanting to wee in the night. Please do it. By the time you get further symptoms, the cancer is advanced.

I know I sleep better after a hard physical workout-maybe a good jog in the evening after dinner, or something that will make you so tired you must sleep.

Already been there and done that now.:wah:

Loved the result as it was explained to me. "We did not find any cancer cells in the samples that we took from your prostate (10 chomps). Which doesn't rule out that you haven't got cancer cells in your prostate, it's just that we didn't get those samples."

To hell with them.

Alfuzosin is the only reason I keep getting up in the night to wee. The rest of the day is... well, Mr O will tell you what it's like.

Anyway, my heart condition is more immediate than the possibility of cancer. That is a definite condition and as Raven once said to me, 'so you're just sucking' and not blowing as well.

You're probably right there and one of the things I want to do is get a baby sling (seenn a good one for kids up to 5 years old) and take Arabella up in the hills.

The evenings, though are over and done with once I get home, do my paperwork, check mail, email, FG, etc.

The trouble is with me is that while I enjoy a good walk, iot's got to be for a definite purpose. Difficult to explain that. I can't walk just for the sake of it or for my health.

How can I put this.

I don't do things for the sake of my health but because I want to do it. Does that make sense?
