I have just been on another thread and wanted to find a link for this about taxidermy.
When i found this link, i found myself suddenly transported back in time to when i was a small child.
This is where I grew up. A tiny village in West Sussex called 'Bramber' near Steyning where i went to school.
The link is about 'Walter Potter' the countries most famous taxidermist who exhibited his work in a tiny museum yards from my home. He aquired many freaks of nature and please scroll right down the link to see such exhibits as the kitten with six tails. He set his exhibits in 'scenes' such as 'the kitten's tea party' and 'who killed **** robin?'
Admission was 1 penny when i was a child and my brother and i would spend hours in there fasinated by the bizzare sights.
In the picture of the Bramber churchyard, my family home was just beyond the tree's. The pub, re-named Bramber Castle was where my father would enjoy an occassional pint of bitter.

My family are still in this area but sadly the museum is gone.

Ive spent hours browsing through the site below.
Images conjure up memories long forgotten.
Then I usually drink a fifth of bourbon and cry myself to sleep.

If your not joking then i can understand the feeling. I don't cry over it but i often yearn for those days again. Care to elaborate why your link is so special for you?
The ruins of Bramber Castle were between the museum and my house: This is where we played as young children, had picnics and went to church;

It was just down the lane from my house and we played there all the time. The best part was the dis-used moat where we'd find snakes to take home and terrify my mother. As dusk drew in the bats would come out.

Names of places, old photos of haunts I used to frequent, some still exist some long gone.
Names of people I knew, businesses their families owned. Its nostalgic.
I dont drink the bourbon or cry but I become wistful.

I dont drink the bourbon or cry but I become wistful. That's a good word.....wistful. When i look back on my days in those places, life just seemed so simple. Simple pleasures.

I only live 4 miles from Bramber and remember the museum well. I'm sure it moved to Arundel for a while but it seems everything was sold off.

It was rather macabre.....
We used to go to Steyning Market during the summer holidays....it was a lovely day out. Doesn't exist now of course and neither does the railway that serviced the market....ah....those were the days.

The museum did move to Arundel and sadly it was sold off to a private collector.
Steyning market. Gosh those were the days. Do you remember that Steyning had a steam railway station? Bramber had a stop as well opposite the castle. It was shut down when i was about 4 yrs old but i can remember my mother saying 'Here comes the choo choo'.
Mum used to take me to Steyning market every week as a small child. It was held on a wednesday morning. She would buy chickens and rabbits but you could get anything in there. I always remember the auctioneers babbling away. Of course, mum never told me they were all off to be slaughtered.
Next to the market was an auction house. The whole area has been flattened now with a revolting new housing development in it's place.
