Phill is fairly tall, the Queen looks about 5ft. Michelle looks very tall, do you know her height?

I wouldn't describe it as "a hug", by any means - & it isn't, by definition, a "breach of protocol" - the Queen did not seem to object, and the gesture may have been simultaneous or the Queen may even have initiated it.

The Queen *was* 5'4", which is approximately average height now. However, she's 82 years old, and has probably "shrunk" rather, since her youth. The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, *was* 6'2" - he's 87, so may have lost some height as well.

Mrs. Obama is 45 years old, and nearly 5'11" - Mr. Obama is 47, and nearly 6'2" - both these figures subject to minor downward adjustment.

None of these figures take into account stance at any particular time.

Yes - again, I'm unsure of the suitability of the word "gaffe" - it seems to me that the press are scrambling over each other for non-news. It seems to me that he's often expressing a "sense of humour" - seems frowned on when it's someone in the public eye.

Nope. Missed the gaffe. What was it?(laughs) At 87 I'm not surprised. Did see one report that said the Queen had asked Michelle Obama to keep in touch, so it seems some impact was made.

I myself love his dry humour and wait with anticipation for the next 'gaffe' as they call them.

Reported somewhere:

Prince Philip displayed his uncanny knack for leaving his mark on a state occasion, issuing a few forthright observations. As the first couple exchanged small talk with the Queen about their gruelling schedule, the prince swung into action, declaring: "You're just trying to stay awake!"

Then as President Obama listed his meetings with Gordon Brown, the Russian president and David Cameron, Prince Philip cut in again, asking: "Can you tell the difference between them?"

To me this shows long experience of the tedium of some "state" occasions, with some sympathy for Mr. Obama.... why it's presented as "a gaffe" I don't know. The knives are out, I suppose.

Clever. Very well-chosen gift.

Once in a Spitfire Squadron, your pals tend all go by the names of : 'Jiffy', 'Squiffy', 'Biffy'. etc. and speak a language that is alien now to the middle and younger generation. Most of my teens were spent trying to explain to my father what i was talking about. He pulled me up once and asked what a 'bloke' was. When i explained, he said 'Oh you mean a chap'. :wah: Or trying to explain what a 'gig' was. Now, i don't understand a word the teenagers are saying in my family. I get transported back in time to my fathers language when-ever i'm with the Colonel down the British Legion.

The talk she gave to the school kids was delighfull and she was so caring with the kids with cancer. I was really impressed with her.

I think she has a touch of princess Diana.
