On t.v tonight i seen a girl recall the events of being beat up on a bus by six other girls, nobody helped her. There were plenty of people on the bus.

My initial thought was i found it difficult to believe no-one came forward to help but my friends in the room started to recall tales of situations they knew about that caused the person getting involved harm. Is this how we think nowardays?

I'd like to think that even if i felt i could not stop the six girls i could have at least got up and demanded the bus driver stop the bus and call for help.

I find it more upsetting to think i'd do nothing through fear than do something which may turn the anger towards myself, not that i feel i'm any kind of hero or brave in anyway and faced in the situation i can only say what i think i would do.

I dont think i would be able to sleep at night just letting the situation pass by if i was there.

In saying that until faced with a situation i dont suppose you can say for sure what you would do, only what you hope you would do.

Yes, i would jump in. I have done twice before. One of the reason's we are the society we have become is because it's too simpler to 'walk on by'.

I would try to help - one possible option would be directly and physically. There might be others. Circumstances would dictate.

all depends on the circumstances.

I couldn't do nothing and then face myself in the mirror.

I rode the metrorail last summer, and this man was bothering a woman about my age. Everyone in that section of the car wouldn't put up with it, and protected the lady. I think that is the rare instance, when nobody steps up to help another in need.

This is not unusual---------I remeber some years ago a case that made national news. The girls name I think was Kitty Genovese, raped and repeatedly stabbed many times in full view of many witnesses that were looking out their windows and never even called the police. Pathetic!!!

It happened as I recall, in New York City.

I would help if nothing else I would call 911.

I would have to do something.

It's in my nature to become involved, I can't stand to see people bullying / picking on those weaker than themselves. On the other hand, I also understand how some people have a confidence / anxiety issue holding them back, you also have to way up the fact that there may also be other issues at hand. I just have to get involved, thats just the way I am.

it would depend on the situation and whether or not my children were with me. They're still very young and they would be my priority.

I would like to think that I would help, in fact I know I would. I would jump in if I felt it would be the right thing to do without getting myself killed, but at the very least I would be extremely verbal as well as calling 911 or doing something to get help.

However, in this country, you would stand the chance of being arrested for helping :-5

ya, same here as well. It sucks, but at some point thought (as you well know) you need to take a stand...

Did you see in the paper yesterday about the student who found a mobile phone? He handed it into the police who then promptly arrested him for 'Theft by finding'. Charges were dropped after an uproar.

Due to police targets, an officer will always look for an arrest even if it is the innocent who's tried to stop something. A fruitless call out is the last thing they want here. No wonder the BNP are gaining councils and subscribers!!!!

Disgusting and sickening.

I know I wouldnt be able to look in the mirror. Id be plagued with shame and remorse.

I guess you dont know until your faced with that type of situation but Id like to think Id act on instinct.

Presence alone is often enough to deter.

But just in case I have a surprise I keep on my person.

Yeah I'd help ..................done it before and I'd do it again.

My dad always said "never start a fight, but make bloody sure you finish a fight."

My upbringing means I wouldn't think twice about it. It doesn't make sense to me not doing anything it just doesn't compute in my head.
