I went to the job fairs on Wednesday and Thursday night. Wednesday was for middle schools, and was discouraging. Only two interviews, and they gave me a hard time. Thursday was much better at the high school one, with five interviews.

It was quite interesting how little the interviewers looked at a resume. I condensed mine to a page. I sat through an interview for a science position, then at the end they told me they didn’t have any, only social studies. I told them quietly my PhD was in History, (it was there under my education level) than they were very interested.

I wish the process was over, and I hope I get a nice school.

good luck chonsi will have my fingers crossed for you:-4

My son tried getting into the airforce last year and had exam after exam getting over 95% each time, this took 5 months and he still had another exam to do, a health check and an interview so he gave up as it was taking soooooooooo long.

He got a job with cisco but just recently he was retrenched so has reapplied for the airforce. Is exempt from most exams as he has already done them. Has his interview this Wednesday but intake is not till June:-5 They try to encourage the young ones to join the forces but why does it take so long beats me:-5 In the meantime we are supporting him hoping this time it dosent take as long.

It is a fact I'm sure, Chonsi, that these interviewers only glance at CV's. I suppose they see so many, they must go cross-eyed ! All the very best to you ! :-6

Sorry to hear that Kay . I have friends whos twin boys are now both in the airforce. It was an excruciatingly long process and one of them took a break for awhile. But then again the Vic police process takes around two years it's getting longer and longer.

Hello Chonsi:-4

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this process. Perhaps I don't understand your school district policies. We have 13 grammar schools, 3 intermediate and 3 high schools. We have about 19,000 children in our district schools.

When academic subjects are cut from the program in individual schools, our teachers are assigned to another school in the district. You either accept the offer or move onto another school system. You have the option to discuss your concerns with the Superintendent of Schools or their assistances to ask for a particular school.

Just curious Chonsi, why do you have to go to a job fair?

Whatever happens Chonis...I wish you the best of luck. Knowing you, you're probably over qualified for all the jobs:wah:

If we want a choice of schools, we go to the job fair. My school district is very large, I could drive up to 90 minutes away if assigned somewhere. I don't want to do that. I am trying to stay a reasonable distance from home. So we have to try for the available positions. I think there are about 15 high schools, 20+ middle schools. The downside is, the closer schools are the tougher ones. just think of The View......(filmed here in my lovely city) *shiver*

I am assured a job. The downside, in this economy and declining student population, some of the positions at the end will be offered as part time. So, I cannot do that. I need a full time position.

job fairs do make sense when you have no idea where or how far you will be placed by the school district.

keep up the good work!

have you checked the want-ads in the paper?

plus if you go online for your area, jobs are posted everywhere.
