Most of you know I live in a tiny town on the river, about 1200 people live here anyway, my point, we have a McDonalds, wow ! 3 out of 5 times your order is wrong, no matter the rotation of employees over the years it still remains a high error rate. Heres my question, do you say something, or do you let it pass?
Also when you go out to a nice meal where you get out of the car:yh_rotfl
If something isnt right do you suck it up or do you say something, I am amazed at the number of people at work that say nothing Nothing says you have to be a pain in the arse.Just politely say something

Heck yeah I say something. I want what I am paying for. I'm polite about it and understand that humans make mistakes.

In a sit down place I do say something because the food is right in front of me.
If I'm going through a fast food drive thru then I just make sure I have the correct number of items because it all pretty much tastes the same anyway. :wah:

Does "bring it up" have the same alternative meaning in the USA as it does in the UK, and if so, how does one do it politely?

It can have the same meaning if brought up correctly.
In this case she meant bring it up as in bring up the subject.

In our town down here, there are so many restaurants & quickie food places that we find ourselves dining out, & on a few occasions as well as eating out. (At least 5 to 6 times a week) Dining out, is in a restaurant, eating out, is at Mickey D's, KFC, BK, or Wendy's, or the like.
Yes, lately even in fine restaurants, we have found that the food is only as good as the chef preparing it! The last 4 out of 5 times we ate at a restaurant, we had to send either one or even both of our meals back, due to it not being prepared as ordered! At one restaurant, we even had to send the meals back twice, and the second time around the meals were still not correct. So we walked out, as we were walking out, the manager graveled apologetically, and said how embarrassed he was, and how he would speak to the chef. So we went to another restaurant two blocks down the road, & had a fine meal, "as we ordered"!
("They" had a chef, the other restaurant had a cook!)

With a take-out order, it is always best to check inside your bag before you leave with your food. If it is not what you ordered, have them fix it right there and then.

We went to a restraunt where my husband ordered his steak medium-well. When it came to the table, blood was still running out. He sent it back. It came back the same way! He sent it back, and it came back the exact same way. Once again, he sent it back. Again, it came back the same way. He finally gave up and took it home and finished cooking it. I soooo wanted to go tell the cook, that if they didn't know blood running out is not medium-well, perhaps they should find a job that doesn't involve cooking. :-5 I didn't. They did take the cost of his dinner off the meal, but I find out who is cooking before I go in there now.

How about take out, delivery, etc. Yes a nice cheesesteak with extra cheese would do good right about now. And they can deliver it.

Yesterday, our daughter went through the "drive thru" at Burger King! She ordered 2 whoppers & 2 fries. She got the order, checked the bag, 2 wrapped woppers, 2 fries. So she drove off. When she got home she opened one of the wrapped woppers and all there was, was the bun!!! She called them & they said they would give her two woppers next time she visited, she said forget it, there won't be a next visit!
She was p*ssed!

You don't go to these places, at all, full stop. Simple.
