Experts Keeping Close Eye on Asteroid!

An asteroid the size of a 25-story building will come within 18,000 miles of Earth on April 13, 2029!

The asteroid, called Apophis, has only a 1 in 45,000 chance of colliding with Earth. But it will then be back for another shot seven years after that. It's hard for astronomers to determine what kind of threat Apophis poses in 2036 because its orbit will be bent by gravity during its 2029 flyby.

During the 2029 visit, the asteroid is expected to be visible to the naked eye at night.

Apophis, which was discovered in 2004, is about 210 to 330 meters, or 690 to 1080 feet, in diameter, according to NASA.

In more recent history, an asteroid that was about 50 meters, or 164 feet, exploded over Siberia, an unpopulated part of Russia, in 1908. It torched or blew down trees in an 800-square mile area.

This object is predicted to come historically close, about a 1 in 800 year event, it was said by NASA.

So if you're lucky enough to be alive in 2029, & or 2036 GOOD LUCK!

I'd missed that one, thank you.

The question is Cars. Will Bruce Willis still be alive then ? He has first hand knowledge of problems like this ;)

I'll do my best. I've no plans to shuffle of this mortal coil for a long time yet. I might need one hand on the zimmer frame as I gaze skyward

Blast. I was debating whether or not to, and now I *will* open that next bottle. It's been a bad day.

Not too bad I hope Bill - I'll quite happily take the odds their offering.

Let's raise a glass to "the future and all who sail in her" :-)

Well I suppose it is bound to occur, after all, the moon and all the other planets have had things hitting them so why not us? Besides, we have already been hit several times in the past! I definitely intend to be around in 20 years time - although I expect I shall be a grumpy owd curmudgeon by then, and probably well esconced in a wheelchair so I won't worry about falling backwards as I look into the heavens on 13th April (hope it isn't a Friday :lips:). Hey isn't that the year that Queen Elizabeth is supposed to be handing over her rulership to Charlie boy ? :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl

I think that is after the polar shift in 2012 so according to others none of us will be around, what a shame.

Now that's something of a concern, cause if I don't get run over by a cement truck, I'm pretty sure I'll make 2012 with no problem!!!

Now 2029, that's another thing !

No sweat, we've been through polar flips before - there's even records in the histories describing them.
