An Oshkosh area woman says she fears her husband may have gone sleepwalking and drowned in the Fox River.

Cherie Merkes says her 55-year-old husband, Michael Merkes, had been feeling tired and sick before he disappeared Saturday. She says he took a prescription sleep aid Friday night and they agreed he would go to a walk-in clinic Saturday if he did not feel better.

Instead, she woke Saturday to find him missing from their home in the town of Black Wolf. Police found his car near the Fox River about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Cherie Merkes says she believes her husband drove there in his sleep and walked into the river.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department and Oshkosh Police Department are still searching for Michael Merkes

Wow, that's horrible. Yes, we have a huge 3 alarm fire going on in the next town involving about 3 rowhomes & loads of fire rescue personel there. I just hope everyone got out safe...we can see the smoke, helicopters, etc. We can also smell the smoke.:lips:

BELVIDERE — Aldermen have OK’d potbellied pigs as welcome pets within the city.

The City Council voted 9-1 on Monday to amend the city’s zoning code to allow for a household to have one potbellied pig that weighs less than 120 pounds. Alderman Andy Racz voted against.

City code was previously silent on the allowance of potbellied pigs.

Brandy Weith, a veterinary technician at State Street Small Animal Clinic in Belvidere, has raised her potbellied pig, Simon, for about six years. She says they can be a handful to care for, but they make great pets.

“They’re very affectionate. They’re very, very sweet, Weith said. “They’re very sensitive. They love to cuddle.

Weith’s pet pig weighs a little less than 100 pounds and is smaller in stature than the family dog, an adopted boxer/greyhound mix.

Farm hogs can weigh more than a thousand pounds, but the typical adult potbellied pig weighs between 60 and 175 pounds, according to the North American Potbellied Pig Association.

Potbellied pigs also have more compact bodies, giving them smaller dimensions than many household dogs, and are suitable for the home, according to an article released by the association.

The request to change the law to allow potbellied pigs came to the city in February after resident Stacie Manzella wanted to ensure her father-in-law’s pet pig Pumba could come with him when he moved from Mundelein to Belvidere

I never knew that they weren't allowed. I don't live in Belvidere but it is right next to the city I do live in. Guess you used to have to have a special permit, not really sure?

Loves Park- Mysterious objects falling from the sky, sounds like the beginning of a good science fiction novel. But for one loves park man it's reality.

Erico Santiago's yard was filled with hail after yesterday's storms. But when it all melted something else was left behind.

Hundreds of clear Jelly-like globs filled his yard.

"When we picked it up to feel to see if it was ice, we broke it apart and it feels like gel, like clear gel. But it doesn't melt, it doesn't smell, you don't smell anything on it. But I wouldn't taste it. I don't know what it is," says Erico Santiago found unknown substance on lawn

Santiago plans to check with the city to see if they know what it is.

And he wasn't the only one with the mysterious jel in their yard. Samples are being sent to a lab to figure out what this stuff was. Sort of scary IMO

I didn't dare look, for fear of finding the answer.
