:wah: you think i'm going to tell all the secrets??

next thing you know everybody will be over here asking cop questions! HA!... if all the traffic is traveling about the same speed and you're not weaving in and out and doing silly things, you should not have a problem. sometimes we go slowly to act as a rolling roadblock and slow the traffic for whatever reason, not to laugh at all the chickens! :yh_chickn but it can get VERY annoying having the traffic back up behind you, pass me if it's within the speed limit.when other cops stop it's because they wanted to see if someone needed a little backup. there is no acceptable excuse for speeding, really speeding, unless you're about to give birth within moments or having a heart attack. then i'll get you there. and as to radar, i just need you in my sights. why does the other car get bagged and not you? unless we are set up for it, we can only stop one at a time, just your lucky day. and number 7. attitude is everything. a little joke is ok unless i am pointing my weapon at you for some reason. but NOT those donut jokes. and don't tell me how you pay my salary.

'cause you don't pay me enough! LOL

er.....so for how long did you know your birthday was coming? hmmmm? and no, it is not against the law for me to hang around a bar at closing time, that drunk just may hit someone you love. about the rolling road block, opposite problem...one day i had to take a sheriff's van with some idiot from the jail in the back, he needed to go to the hospital and i got "lucky". one of the deputies at the jail wanted to play with me, so he turned the light bars on, and i didn't realize it. i was doing a normal speed and kept wondering why everybody was pulling over to the side of the road! damn red and blue lights were flashing the whole time. HAHAHAHA (i did go back and smack that guy

I think cops pick and choose who will get off easy and who won't. If you're a male alone in the car at any age under 70 you'll get zero slack, unless you have a GWBush sticker on your bumper. If you're a BLACK male assume you will be asked to exit the vehicle and splay face down on the pavement fingers criss crossed behind the head. If you are a female at any age you'll get off, unless you're a college alcoholic, a meth head or you are black sporting a full afro. Women with kids in the car can get away with anything. My own 60something mother was stopped last week (to my shock) for driving 54 in a 40mph zone! My 2 year old neice strapped and buckled in in the backseat drew a smile from the cop, she said. She was let go of course!! INJUSTICE!!!! :-5

Hi Scrat... the radar is accurate. sorry

...and let me illustrate the left on red concept with an anecdote from when i was in the police academy...we had all gone out for lunch. and were following each other in our respective vehicles. (cops can never just say "cars") ..OK, i took a left on a red light. when we all got back to class, there on the blackboard in three-foot high RED letters were the words "(my name) what color is this????

What if during a routine traffic stop you spot a quarter ounce of marijuana? Is it maximum security prison for life? I have an aquaintance in Oregon that was caught with that amount and he just got a ticket for $50!!! And he kept the stuff!

here's a tip for anyone pulled over by the cops. it won't help you get out of a ticket, but it will help keep the cop calm, and a calm cop is a happy cop, right?
my bro in law used to be a cop. highway patrol, sheriff, police, corrections, he did it all in his brief career. he 'taught' me this (along with how to fire a gun, and other amazing daring-do).
cop pulls you over. once you come to a complete stop, roll down your drivers side window all the way, then put your hands up high on the steering wheel - either at the 'traditional' 10 o'clock/2 o'clock, or just both at the very top of the steering wheel next to each other.
this goes a LONG way towards setting the cop at ease from the git go. a cop does NOT like approaching the car with the windows up, and the driver fishing around looking for license and registration. once the cop is next to you, THEN, when he or she ASKS you for the license and registration, you can start looking for it. my registration is in the glove box, so i tell the cop 'it's in the glove box' before i reach for it.
too many cops have been assaulted, shot, and killed approaching vehicles for any of them to take chances. window down and hands in plain sight is what will make the cop happy.
in my driving career, i lost count of my speeding tickets after the first dozen, starting the year i got my license. never did get enough 'points' to warrant losing the license, though i did have to hire an attorney to get out of one that would have put me over the points limit (we filed enough docs that the chp officer simply didn't show up, as they knew it'd be too much time and trouble in court for one speeding ticket, so it was dismissed).
so, i've had a LOT of encounters with cops. there's no point in getting off on the wrong foot. of course, setting the cop at ease won't necessarily do anything in terms of whether you get the ticket (boy, that's the truth!), but as a courtesy to them i think it's a small but decent thing to do.
oh, and, uh, FIGHT THE POWER!

And dont forget the motorcycle cops! LOL! I had the rare opportunity to view the rear plate of one once. It read......'SMILE! I COULD BE BEHIND YOU!'
This very same cop, told me no matter what, if a motorcycle cops boots hit the ground, you were GOING to get a ticket.
I'm not real sure if he was joking or not! :-3

I have always wondered that too...why cops don't just sit outside of the bars and wait for people to stumble out and try to drive. Sounds like prime pickins to me!
Of course, maybe they have other things to do than sit outside a bar.

I had a cop pull me over once and I didn't have my insurance card on me. He said that was okay...if I would meet him at a specific place on such and such night (public place) then he would waive my ticket. I didn't meet him...because that freaked me out. I just paid the ticket. Was he trying to make the moves on me...or just being nice? Is this a normal cop move?

Anastrophe is SO right! let me see those hands! if you have windows blackened and are fiddling around with your hands i am likely to have my gun drawn on you when i approach. approaching a car is right up there with domestic disputes as far as dangerousness. in fact we are trained to not approach in what is known as the "kill zone".

...don't like bikes, no place to put a prisoner, have to wait for a cruiser/backup. and hotsauce, we DO hang out at certain bars.:sneaky:

out of state tags in FLORIDA??? i'd never sleep. let me tell you confidentially, people from Quebec CANNOT drive! it's horrible. they are a nightmare. but little tiny ancient people (whose heads don't reach the dashboard) in florida are worse, turn signals on since they left home this morning, no sight, no hearing, no reflexes, meds, 23 mph in the fast lane, and have an ATTITUDE!! then there is miami, where putting your gun out the window constitutes a turn signal. :-5

Hey LC....
Come on you should remember them Quebec drivers from your time in this neck of the woods, especially them ones from Montreal... there driving rules include...
1) if there is a car in front of them, they have to pass it.. even if it is the only one in a 100 mile radius
2) speed limit.. what speed limit
3) turn signals.. what are those...
4) Je ne parle pas englais...
and those are just the traits I can remember off the top of my old grey head..
But even better.. for any of you that have been out one beautiful Lake Champlain and seen the sailboats that come south in the summer with the topless ladies from Quebec.. and the 300lb men in thong bikini bottoms.. now there is something that should be against the law.....

Well, with (AHEM!) only ONE ticket in 36 years of having a driver's license,
I must say, just do everything the way you're supposed to. No problem.
My sister is a nurse for an air ambulance service, they go out to lots of
crash sites, she meets lots of highway patrol officers. On her way to/from
her work, she hangs her flight suit in the back window and has a decal
for the air ambulance company. So officers, sort of as professsional
courtesy, have let her skate with a warning. She did have one tell her
(re: the "only 5 mph over rule") that it was still breaking the law, just
like robbing a bank, doesn't matter if it's ten bucks or ten thousand bucks,
still against the law.
Her ex-husband told me once that if someone was doing 80 mph on the
freeway but had their seatbelt on, signalled lane changes and not weaving
in and out, he'd let 'em go. But do 26 mph in a school zone, and he'd throw
everything he could at ya and make it stick!!
Our city recently did a traffic study, out of 113 cars not ONE was doing
the posted limit. I told my husband I must not have driven down that
street that day, because if I had been, it would have been only ONE
car out of 113 was doing the posted limit!!

It doesn't always work that way. In theory you're right. In reality, here in The Garden just getting to know someone isn't enough for alot of people. This is a great place but it's been a rough road since my first day and a few are still gunning for me! I had to adjust to the Gardeners, not the other way around. It's taken David awhile to grasp that.

Or is that a rude question????
They say that English families never speak of money as it beneath their dignity.?
The same is not true north of THE border - or the Mason Dixon line.
Sad really, New Orleans, could have done with a lot more talking about its situation.
