Question??

I was wondering why if we go to one of the many forums that we are fortunate to have on FG, and respond to a old post, like I did in the International Politics Forum, that it does not make it to the Today's Post or New Posts? Accountable initially had a post about Cuba and the U.S. embargo. Nomad responded and I was the third person to respond. There are a number of these forums with only one or two responses. Rather than having to seek out a particular forum, wouldn't it be helpful for all posts to different forums go right onto Today's or New Posts. I know that many of the Forum Topics are of limited interest to many, but still, wouldn't this stimulate more and perhaps even enlightened discussion? Just wondering.

It is true that this front page is always changing with new threads. Many active threads are indeed not on the front page. I have found myself wandering the archives to find those old topics. I have noticed that old threads with new responses are sometimes put on that list to the right of this page in the "Latest Discussions" box.

This isn't about old posts fading. Threads and posts on the international politics forum don't make it on the home page at all. I've mentioned this before.

did you get an explanation sweetie? if not, i'll throw this back into the mod pit to see if any of the old folks have a clue..

I thought it was kinda funny that game threads could eat up the entire area on the right some days..

Um yea that's the term. I find it frustrating to see them eat up the space. I think they should be lumped as one so they don't take up all that room when you first sign on. But hey that is just my opinion as a non game player.

Of offence intended

It does make it harder for folks giving us a looksee to get a real taste of the variety of topics available. i don't think they need to be on the home page at all, personally... but then again I don't get asked for my opinion..:D

But the notion that other topics are not showing up there, that just makes it an even stranger choice, in my view..

I agree, I mean the games are fun, they are popular but they should maybe not show up for every single game. Some days it makes for a lot of scrolling maybe I am just becoming an old chrone hahahaha

Is this true of some other Forum subjects as well?

I'm confused about what different people see when they sign on the FG.

I get a page that at the top says HOME WHO'S ONLINE TODAY'S POSTS MARK FORUMS READ MY TOPICS MY REPLIES. If I want to see games I must click over to that area. Also, I will see a list of the current postings on different subjects. If we are seeing different things on sign in even if we are continually signed in, then that explains a lot.

I get that. The center column is of the newest threads, with the latest posts listed in a column on the right.

I've just been and looked and the reason they do not show up is because you are posting in the polictical thread that is within the 'News Feed' thread. They got turned off as showing up, the news feed was something automatic and if I remember rightly is swamped the boards with news stories.

Oops! :o

Now that makes sense. I know newsfeeds completely overwhelm some other sites. Thanks Betty!

Any way to move those non-newsfeed threads into more appropriate forums?

It's a configuration error which may have inadvertently been there for some while, there's a flag like on compost. I've no idea why it was set but it can easily be rectified. Maybe something got rather hot at some stage.

eta:

okay, I worked it out. It's a forum area under News Feeds and it was set up to take generated posts from off-site, Tombstone didn't want the generated news threads to shunt real discussion off the home page. Since the news feeds were dropped it's been used as a discussion area but the flag to exclude is still set.

If Tombstone has no plan on putting further generated threads into them (and personally I didn't much like the idea myself) maybe he could clear the flag and make them less specific.
