Depends very much on how long (s)he'd been sailing and how good (s)he is at it.

Mostly it would be no - a person of that age would be psychologically unsuited to the long periods alone and would be unlikely to have the practical experience to carry it off but there are always exceptions.

Excatly... some children who have been sailing all thier lives no problems.. mine no way.

Id make them wait. In the meantime theyd gain more sailing experience and have more opportunity to study research and prepare. Then theyd have my frightened blessings. I dont think you should persuade people to give up their dreams and passions. A part of you dies inside when you do that.

I agree. I know how I was at that age. I knew everything and only thought about two things. Girls and big game hunting like Robert Ruark and Jim Corbett. I admit, some kids mature much faster than others, but 15 is too young for something like that, IMHO.

I never heard of him as a hunter. I remember seeing his shows a few times. Someone was always wrestling some critter it seems.

Not a chance in hell. Not even old enought to drive a car.

I'm sure this girl is very competent,and from hearing her talk about her planned travels,she is very mature as well,but it's the unforseen dangers of being stuck out in the middle of the ocean alone that would worry me the most.

I just wonder if she is too caught up with being the youngest to complete this challenge and not considering all the dangers?

Depends, if she is one of those surly, dark gothic types I might encourage her. It would probably straighten her ass out.

No way!!!!! Even the most experienced have a backup of some sort. 15 is just far to young. Maybe some day when she is older. Hard to say no but have some backup reasons that would make sense to

her.

Quite a lofty dream just the same. I find that admirable. Perhaps even worth her life.

NO for now they are still a minor and traveling around the world on land requires adult decision making and in some place you need to be a certain age. Sailing around the world at 15 a bit fool hardy at best no matter how great a sailor you are to dangerous and risky. Sailing around the world with a full crew is dangerous doing it alone at 15 is a nice dream but not realistic in my eyes. They aren't even old enough to drive a car in the US at 15 or vote this is an adult dream that need to wait till they are just that.

Clearly shes too young but some personalities are driven by andrenaline experiences. Some people just have to do what they have to do. It was inevitable Steven Foster would eventually die in one of his escapades but the risk was worth the adventure to him.

True Nomie but he was an adult. Is he the balloon guy? he could take those risks and yes they eventually did kill him.

A child taking the risk at such a dangerous endeavor needs to be guided by the adults around her to chill and pace her dream so maybe one day it can be a reality.

It is daunting. Ive been out in the Gulf of Mexico with no land in sight in a small craft and fear set in. Still to sail the ocean....:-6

wow .. i would be amazingly proud if it was mine wanting to do that ,, to have that ambition,, and to have proper plans set out and all:-6but no way would i let them do it at that age,,, they would have to wait. Actually i dont know if they would be allowed to here I might get done for neglection of parental duty or summat Anyway ,, no i would definately encourage her to keep her dream but not just yet...
