The computer, or more directly the Internet. I first used a computer in 1972 and have watched in awe it's ongoing capabilities. It has broadened many peoples view of the world and has given access to unlimited educational opportunities previously not available on a personal basis save through text books or lecture. It has made detailed information on medicine, finance, household and the management of such, quicker, easier and cost efficient. Having been born in 1934 I have seen my share of new inventions and their utilization. My hope? Is that people will take full advantage of the resources that are available through the net to increase their knowledge and enhance their lives.

How about electricity?

We had to survive for two days not so long ago while major re-wiring was being done at our house, and I can tell you that not having any electricity for an extended length of time was MISERY!:(

Or,penicillin, millions of people would have died from illness and infections if this drug hadn't been developed.
