British police arresting the innocent just to boost the DNA data base

My OH had his DNA taken when he was put in the cells overnight after a drunken woman claimed he hit her. ( he wasnt even there)
She knew where he was staying so gave the address and the police came for him late at night.
Then he had to stay in a dirty cell with nothing but a flithy blanket all night and until 5 pm the next day.. OH has a fear of germs and couldnt eat or use the toilet nor the blanket because of this fear.
They took his DNA and wouldn't tell him when he would be released or bought before the judge.
Turns out they had to wait for her to sober up enough so she could confirm his story which was that she had phoned him from the pub to give her a lift and when he refused she phoned the police..
He was released without charge but his DNA remains on file...
