Shots fired at Iran protest rally - Iran- msnbc.com

TEHRAN, Iran - A rally Monday by pro-reform presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi turned violent when gunshots were fired, apparently by pro-government militia.

An Associated Press photographer saw one person shot dead and several others who appeared to be seriously wounded in Azadi Square. The shooting came from a compound for volunteer militia linked to Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard.

I don't know how much I would object if my local police fired at folks trying to burn down the building they were in.

You should disarm your police so they can't be used by the government to keep the people under control.:sneaky: they were attacking the republican guards which is the circumstances is quite amazing. If the demonstrators get crushed by force it is likely to be the republican guard that do it.

This is amazing-looks like the ordinary people in iran are getting fed up. Nice to see what passes for liberal opposition in iran flexing it's muscles. Thank goodness that sabre rattling twit bush is out of the picture.

Its sad to see that the Iranian establishment are incapable of allowing the people of Iran to express their political will, but that may change given the scale of the protests. Its more likely that the forces of reaction will win out however, I fear many people may die, be imprisoned or tortured in the reaction to this mass outpouring of dissent from ordinary Iranians, it happened in Burma late last year and the crackdown there is ongoing, god only knows what is happening to the poor people in Burma, I fear that the same fate may now await many Iranians.

Perhaps that was the point of the regime allowing it to go this far, to flush out their internal enemies, now they can deal with them at their leisure.
