Hi all
I recently watched The day the earth stood still. And although it was a very watchable movie, it doesn't quite compare to the 50's classic. Anybody else have any disappointing remakes you want to share? Just so I can avoid them while using my Blockbuster subscription. :p

I agree with your view of that movie. I watched it last week, the 50s version is so much better.
The worst remake I have ever seen is Starsky and Hutch, gosh, that was awful. (they play it at the gym all the time, seeing it once was too much for me!)

There are loads of them. Psycho. The Wicker Man. The Italian Job. Even mundane stuff like Reginald Perrin (Oh, but it's not a re-make! Well, it's still rubbish).

Ah, I knew better when I watched the new Star Trek last week. Spock was good, but the new Kirk just wasn't the same. Very uneven plot resolution at the end, having an alternate reality in place.

I hadn't realised just how many remakes I've watched in recent years. Just looking through the lists over on wikipedia List of film remakes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia had me cringing. Ones like the afore mentioned Starsky and Hutch, Get carter, psycho and the particularly awful Wicker man, are definately on my list of baddies.

The itailian job... how they ever thought...well.
War of the worlds.. a great classic which the remake couldnt touch.
The time machine.. another wonderful classic ruined by special effects.

I don't get ---- why remakes-----more often than not they are not big money makers and flop.
"The Taking of the Pelham 123" has just been released---Denzel Washington and John Travolta. The original was a 1974 flick with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw. It was a super film and the first film I can recall ever seeing, with obscenities spoken, that I had never heard in a movie before.
I will see the new one because I like both of the stars.

I dont think I can stomach anymore John Travolta. Hes not working for me anymore. Him, Tom Hanks and Nicolas Cage should stand down.
