I can't just be me, can it?

Surely I'm not the only one on their list? It feels like it, all the time I get it, it's driving me mad!!!

What am I banging on about this time?

Phone calls from charities ask for a donation.

'How about setting up a regular payment each month for the equivalent of £2 a week.'

If I did for every one that called I'd have nothing left!!!

I try to give to charity, I mainly support local causes though.

Once you've got on a list they seem to share it out to all the other charities in existance.

Since Friday I've had 4 different charities call me, one on bloomin' Sunday - at lunch time.

All the time and money wasted on these calls - must be cost effective or they wouldn't do it but if it winds me up (and I'm a very mellow person :D) it must really, really put some people off of helping that charity.

I hear you they get your number and they are relentless. We have a national "do not call registry" that you can put your cell, and land lines on that does slow them down a bit. :-5 If they do call you they can be fined and it a stiff fine at that.

Its a shame ,, i once took those envelopes,,,and another time took one of those little boxes you can keep in your home and send off every so often the money,,, but then like you say you just get bombarded with calls,, you have to say no or it would become a full time job!!!!!!!:-5

It's funny..... up to about ten years ago..... i got nothing. Then one day i sent off for a gardening catalogue and then like you i got bombarded with the lot. I went on the TPS and followed their advice telling these callers i was on it and it was an offence to call me as i was also X directory. To get round this this, they now tell you it's not a sales call but a marketing call. I was getting so many calls for changing my mobile network, my gas supply etc it was driving me mad. Then they start calling at your house as well. I can now spot them a mile off and i just say..... I'm with British Gas, I'm not changing, if you don't pisse off, i'll set my dogs about you. That seems to work. One night a group of people turned up trying to get me to sign up to a monthly subscription to a charity. They were so persistent and after talking to them, they revealed they were on commission for everyone they signed up.

I now pretend i'm Lithuanian and can't understand a word they say when they call.

I am slighty hypocritical here as the industry i worked in for years was extremely pro active in marketing and we had to be absolutely ruthless or lose our jobs.

I get so annoyed that when i buy a magazine, there is half the rain forest inside in way of adverts. Then there is pop ups on my pc for insurence. I could go on and on. :-5:-5

Apologize and explain that you are busy. Ask for their home phone number so you can call them back when you have time. ;) :wah:

The TPS is *very* good - and if you get "junk" calls after registration + whatever time it is that's specified by the TPS, then try and get the organisation/number of the caller, which you can then forward to the TPS for action - they've got *teeth*:

"The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile telephone numbers. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so."

MPS online I agree they are very good. You get a registration number and it's wise to make a note of calls and times. From the industry i was in, i know that it's common practice for companies to sell on data. As i said earlier, many will insist it's a marketing and not sales call which they think gets them off the hook. I have in the past listened to the entire speel only to find that right at the end they try to sell me a mobile phone. I have also insisted on the name of the company only to be cut off and find they have with drawn their number while i dial 1471. I found with one company of mobile phones that absolutely drove me mad, the threat of physical violence was the only thing that stopped them. Is it co-incidence that after depositing a fairly decent sum of money, i'm now getting all the credit card companies phoning me. I think i'll stick to pretending to be Lithuanain. It seems to get rid of them far quicker. :-5

Oh Immy, I feel your pain.

It has happened here for years until people got fed up. Now we have a "don't call list" for phone calls and mail. If these telemarketers call you can make a complaint and they'll be warned and maybe fined.

It was awful...they would call at 7 am, dinner time, and 10 pm.... I haven't had a call since.
