I'm quite happy for them to damn me to hell - where ever that may be - I sleep well at night knowing that when i die the light is turned off and the world carries on regardless. I have no faith, I do not believe in a creator. Its as simple as that for me. I have no struggle with that what so ever.

Its about time however that athiests were given equal status in society. I believe in some states of the US they are prohibited from holding public office and are not regarded as patriots or citizens. How odd ! What is the thinking behind that ?

just like a small child who believes the booger man is under his bed every free thinking person has to weigh up the facts and start to realise maybe there is no god ,no devil ,no angels we one life live it be happy :thinking:

or still stay under the blankets in case the booger man gets them

or in this case the none existing god might burn them in hell for eternity for not believing

evolution is a proven fact i have yet to see anything that could point to a god

I like anyone who suggests and offers original points of views free from declaration of absolute truth. I respect his opinion but disregard his theory that religion is the cause of mans shortcomings.

Simply mans inability to tolerate differing views are the source of mans degradation.

Is it not the case that religious belief by it's very nature causes that inability to tolerate different views and allow other to live their lives as they choose?

It's hard to tell with some of these whether they are a spoof or actually genuine.

Yes and no. Extremism is unbalanced. Respect and tolerance are human aspects that allow others to pursue their own beliefs without feeling threatened. A reasonable person understands anothers right to worship in their own way is valid. An extremist is determined to either attempt to change someones differences or denounce them as invalid.

I believe differences can co-exist with tolerance and balance.

Actually it's the differences that make people interesting. Unfortunately with the religious-at least for some of them -they up either trying to convert and if that doesn't work or trying to destroy those who don't see things their way. It's a moot point whether religion makes people worse or is actually the cause of that kind of attitude. You don't really get extremist free thinkers do you- but monotheism has to destroy or discredit those who would dispute the belief system. There's not a lot of room for dialogue with someone who believes there is only one answer and it's they one they believe.
