Since I turned on my PC early this morning, I've been experiencing thick vertical stripes that flash between patterns at a constant rate. Each of 8 equal stripes across the screen flash between a pattern of further vertical stripes and a white stripe. The remaining space is of equal width and is clear. I can just about see what I am typing. When the computer is active, these stripes show interference. The display is otherwise all there. It's just very difficult to see because of the stripes.

The monitor did take some punishment as a result of the fire and the firemen's efforts at my last place. I was surprised it worked. There are small gashes on the front of the screen where it has been struck by something or other. These gashes cause white spots on the screen.

have you tried adjusting your monitor?

I have Odie.

I've also had the PC apart to make sure everything is tickety boo inside there. There's nothing wrong with the graphics card that I can discern via the device manager or by a physical examination.

My monitor is more like a chameleon having a problem with the dance hall lights.

Why??

Is it a flat monitor?? sounds like it was damaged in the fire. Time for a new OM.

Unfortunately, I have no sound as yet. My PC used to be connected to my hi-fi rather than PC speakers and I haven't had time to check whether it works yet. Not even sure where I'm going to put it yet if it does work. It's stored with everything else that needs checking.
