Does anyone here know anything about electric bikes? What's a good, safe brand... that sort of thing? What safety equipment is needed for a rider? Has anyone had any issues with them?

Do your research on line. Find out what previous owners are saying.

I'm looking for ones in Canada, actually. I like that name "Sparta", I'll look into those.

Check out the Worksman company. The Worksman Cycles Factory Direct Store, America's Oldest Cycle Manufacturer, Industrial Bicycles and Tricycles, since 1898
They are made in New York state and optional electric or gas power can be had. They ain't cheap but are built to last for a very long time. You can custom tailor them to suit you. Mine has a 3-speed low gear ratio for hills and easier pedaling and I got the puncture resistant tires and tubes.

Don't know what part of Canada you're in but if you are around Calgary, check out Green City Motors.
They have the Ultra Motors and the Pedego Comfort Cruisers.

Me neither... :p I believe the definition involves the speed and whether or not it can be pedaled as well as powered by a motor. It's mostly to help an old lady get about town (go back and forth to work, pick up a bag or two of groceries, supplies...) without having to fuss over having a car in the city and all the trouble in which that involves. :p

Oh, back when they 1st came out they were called mopeds.
No idea.
That could be helpful depending on how you look at it.
Its probably better for you in the long run if Nomad doesnt get involved.
I fell over tying my shoes this morning.

Ezipp I've been using for quite some time. This is a good electric bike. Ride quality is good and very well priced too. And the best part is that the batteries. I can ride comfortably for 6-7 hours on a single charge. There are enough options in the Indian market, but I think Ezipp is the best around.

Hi Sammy:
I take it that you live in India?
What is your opinion (or what have you heard) about the Hero e-scooter? I looked at them online about a year ago, but found a used Gio (Luyuan) for $300, which has given me a year of carefree (and almost $$$ free) daily transportation, which is a pleasant surprise, given that the Gio/Luyuan is a low priced scooter made in China.
The Heros looked great, but reading some reviews and experiences on Indian websites gave me serious reservations about them.

I recently considered the value of buying an electric bike vs a scooter vs a used car. I'm car hunting tomorrow.
If I save what I'd spend on rain gear and an electric bike kit (1500) and get a vehicle that allows me to transport more than I can carry in a backpack, my lifestyle will profit. Also, the electric bike kits available in Canada tend to have issues.
