MADISON, Wisconsin - Oscar G. Mayer, retired chairman of the Wisconsin-based meat processing company that bears his name, has died at the age of 95.
Mayer’s wife, Geraldine, said he died of old age Monday at Hospice Care in Fitchburg.
He was the third Oscar Mayer in the family that founded Oscar Mayer Foods, which was once the largest private employer in Madison. His grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, died in 1955 and his father, Oscar G. Mayer Sr., died in 1965.
He retired as chairman of the board in 1977 at age 62 soon after the company recorded its first $1 billion year. The company was later sold to General Foods and is now a business unit of Kraft.
Mayer’s first wife, Rosalie, died in 1998. He married Geraldine Fitzpatrick in 1999.
How would you like to live to the age of 95?

For those who are unfamiliar with the company:
Oscar Mayer is an American meat and cold cut production company, owned by Kraft Foods, known for its hot dogs, bologna, bacon and Lunchables products.
History
German immigrant Oscar F. Mayer (March 29, 1859 in Neresheim – March 11, 1955) began working at a meat market in Detroit, Michigan, and later in Chicago, Illinois. In 1900 in Chicago, Oscar Mayer, along with his brother Gottfried, leased the Kolling Meat Market. The two sold bratwurst, liverwurst, and weißwurst and were popular in the predominantly German neighborhoods of Chicago around the market.
As the meat market's popularity grew, it expanded its storefront and sponsored local events including the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. By 1900 the company had 43 employees and Chicago-wide delivery service. In 1904 Oscar Mayer began branding its meats to capitalize on their popularity, beginning an industry-wide trend. In 1906 Oscar Mayer became one of the first companies to voluntarily submit to the newly-created Food Safety Inspection Service (part of the United States Department of Agriculture) for testing the purity of their products.
Oscar Mayer is also famous for their Wienermobile, which has toured the United States for over 70 years. The first Wienermobile was created in 1936, and six have since been built.
In 2007, the company was subject to an email hoax which claimed that Oscar Mayer did not support the United States military.

This is the famous :wah: weinermobile.
As a little girl in Chicago, I did see the actual vehicle. Small weinermoblie whistles were very popular at the time and given out to the kids.
Do you have similar memories of a toy or an unusual vehicle from your childhood?

The weiner mobile is strictly an American icon. Its ours, not canadian with a small c.
Get your own icon like a clubbed seal or frozen moose or something.

If it was on a commercial it was either pilfered or loaned as a treat to less fortunate icicle children. If anything they did it to taunt you.

Just Friday, my friend and I saw the Weiner Mobile driving south on I-90 as we were heading north. I haven't seen it for a while. Nice to know it is still around.
