Oh gross! I'm not pushing the button to pump gas without a tissue!
My phobia is spiders. I've been bitten twice and in the hospital because of them. I get these spells now where I feel like they are crawling on me, I feel like I got bit, I see them out of the corner of my eye.

as to that button problem, could you use an object to press it? ...my TERROR is high bridges, like the sunshine skyway bridge in tampa...i CANNOT drive over it. in the keys it's ALL bridges, island to island, for 100 miles. some are high and freak me out.

, i get clammy palms and break into a cold sweat, my heart races. in fact i am fine with someone who wants to shoot me, no problem, but bridges are a nightmare. people down here are always driving off bridges or into canals and drowning, so i tell EVERYONE. if you have electric windows, keep a center punch tool close at hand! it will instantly destroy the driver's window, but not the windshield.

My phobia happened today when I got to work! A supervisor looked up how many hours I spent on the computer! I was reprimanded and am now being monitored! He asked me what FG was!! No kidding! So I'll be ALOT more scarce for awhile now. :-5

You know.. I have thought the same thing before... MANY times -- ICK!! :yh_sick
(Funny... but I guess I am not that surprised.. we've always had alot in common..

LOL)
canaan wrote: I also have this thing about driving up mountains. I hate it. It makes me sick and I want to cry. I keep thinking we are moments away from missing a turn and rolling violently down a 100 ft. dropoff. And when someone is passing you...ugh!
Omigosh!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean.... I get the same way... always have!! I don't know why either!? I feel like we are just gonna instantly plunge off the side of the cliff or drop off!! That's funny.. I never knew anyone else who had that phobia - usually I get looked at like I'm 'nuts' if I tell anyone that one.. LOL
- - - - - - - - -
I also have a phobia of spiders.. and bugs in general.. but REALLY BAD about spiders!!!!
And bridges -- esp if they are over water!! EEKS!
I can explain that one tho -- I have issues with heights.. always feel like I am gonna fall off or just "leap off" out of my control... if that makes any sense. I get very dizzy and panicked. I also have a big fear of drowning!! I love water.. playing around in the pool or the ocean, etc.. but get me out over my head and I panic -- BIGTIME!! Last summer, on our way back from Ocean City, MD.. we took another way home and crossed over the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge... I thought I was gonna die!! LOL It is very high and very long... and over the ocean (okay technically it was "the Bay".. but still the ocean in my eyes! tee-hee)
Kinda the same deal with boats.. I'll go on them.. but I get nervous. And if I am way out far from land and in deep waters.. esp the in the ocean... I start to freak and panic! Goes back to the fear of drowning!
Oh.. and bad T-Storms.. and TORNADOS!!!! We don't even get tornados around here very often... but still.. the thought terrifies me. If it is a bad storm.. I get worked up into a paranoid frenzy! ESPECIALLY if they happen at nite -- EEKS! I start thinking.. "what if they should spawn a tornado.. it's dark and we wouldn't see it coming... blah blah blah" as I lay there with my heart pounding and silently freaking out! LOL
(David -- your Avatar gives me the willies!! Haa-haa)
I'm sure I have others... less intense ones.. but those are the biggies.. and it is after 3 AM and my brain is not functioning at max capacity... so don't expect or require me to think too hard! :p LOL
Gee-- reading back over this post -- I sound like a total basketcase, huh? LOL I promise I am not that bad!! :wah:

That sounds like my daughter -- she freaks if her face gets wet.. or if she happens to go under the water in a pool, etc. She DOES NOT like that whatsoever!! (hee-hee)

Sorry to sound too girlie but spiders. I regularly having awful dreams about them being able to jump off a wall and onto me. I don't even know if spiders can jump? I once watched a nature programme where there is actually a species of spider that can walk on water. I mean - how would you swill that one down the plug hole? :yh_worry
I don't know why I torture myself with these programmes but I can't help it if one's on. If I see one in my house I can't even put a glass over it or whack it with a shoe coz I'm so scared it'll jump on me. I've never touched one and never will. I'd rather live with my phobia than get over it coz that will involve being in the same room as a big, hairy, scary looking mamma of a tarantula.
Ooooooooooooohhh the thought makes me feel sick

I'm a pretty boring phobic...just scared of bugs...but REALLY, REALLY scared of bugs. Spiders of the worst. I hate june bugs quite a bit too. They fly out of control...smacking into everything...and when they get in my hair...they are almost the same color...and difficult to find. Ughhh...I'm getting the heebie geebies just thinking about it.

I have a horrible phobia of spiders, to the point I sometimes get physically ill. I once lived in a farm house and these huge field spiders would come into the house. Once, a HUGE one was walking across the carpet. Nobody was home to get it so before I could think, I grabbed a phone book and threw it on top of it. Then the panic set in and all I could think about was that the phone book wasn't that heavy and since it was carpet, I probably just squished him a little and he was working his way out from underneath. So I 'run' and grab a dictionary and 2 books from college, and put them on top of the phone book. Then, I start dry heaving as I put all my weight on top to really squish it. Hubby had to deal with it later but I was satisfied at the time it was dead.
I have tons of stories like this!

Of course I do -- all the time -- I love the great outdoors.. (believe it or not!! :p )
Like I said - when I sat and listed them ALL TOGETHER -- it sounded quite insane... but it's not all AS bad as it may sound... really. :yh_wink
Maybe if you put me in a sealed room, that was filling up with water.. and there was a spider in there with me.. and told me a tornado was coming -- and my only escape was to climb a very very tall building and sit at the very top of it....
THEN we'd have some MAJOR Panic Attacks going on!! :wah: LOL

If I may suggest something here for all you bug a phobic's go to a bug museum, or bug place that teaches you about them. The are amazing creatures and there are about 2 that prove deadly, the brown recluse and the hobo spider the rest you can survive. Remember you CAN ALWAYS outurn a crawly bug.
I used to be petrified of dragonflies but due to a change in sport and had to be on the water loads I got past that (and now as my badge I have 2 tattood on my back)
I live by this quote, nothing is to be feared, but merely understood.
Go learn about your fear it really helps. Peg I can totally understand your fear mind you, I have terrible allergies to mosquito bites and have been told that if a bee stings me or a wasp I could be in for trouble. I don't fear them but am cautious.
Now haveing preached that....
I have only 1 fear left in my life (gawd I have over come a bunch of them) I hate confined spaces with a passion. and worse, confined and dark. OMG I can't get past that one. I suppose a caving lesson or 2 may help.

I have a fear of open water and heights.
I get really bad vertigo at great heights. I'll actually stumble forward or backward feeling like the world is tilting. BUT I have been challenging it. At work I can now climb up almost vertical ladders and climb onto planks that are twenty feet in the air. I still get shaky but it gets better all the time. As long as I'm not in really scary places until after I've had a good lunch I have not been defeated by the fear yet. Well, not lately anyway.
The open water thing...I'm convinced a shark is going to attack me whether they frequent the body of water or not. It got so bad once I actually thought there was a shark in the deep end of a swimming pool. At that point I just thought "This is ridiculous" and started fighting that one too.

YES!!! This is what I have too -- vertigo! That was what I was trying to explain last "nite" when I said I often feel dizzy and like I am just gonna lean over and fall off.. out of my control, etc. It was late and I couldn't think of the word.. but docs have told me I have that pretty bad.. Vertigo. So that explains that! (hee-hee)

Yeh I understand that shark thing... I get that way too sometimes... like I am convinced there is one always lurking nearby! :p (tee-hee)
--BUT--
OMG OMG OMG -- You are only the FOURTH person I ever heard of that has scared themselves silly thinking there was a shark in the POOL.. even tho you knew darn well there wasn't!! :yh_rotfl LMAO!!!! I am guilty of that when I was a bit younger.. and my husband confessed he has done that too... we thought we were the only ones.. UNTIL we were camping one time.. and talking about it one nite around the campfire. One of my friends was shocked and said she experienced the same thing in her own pool! (he-hee) She was relieved to know she wasn't the ony "wacky" one to do that!! LOL After that -- We never knew anyone else that did that... but we had some good hearty laughs at ourselves and at just how ridiculous it all was!!
Those dark shadows in the far corners of the pool can sure be menacing!! LOL :wah: LOL
