does anyone know how much it costs if you leave your computer on 24/7 -per month for hydro?



I have search and searched.......and its all in kilowatts.

we are charged here monthly for it.

that really helped, so for me it may cost me 5.00 a month....

and that is using the sleep mode during the day when not in use....and shutting it down at night....



also found out a lot on running my central air conditioning when not at home..I thought it was less energy to keep it on rather than putting it on when I returned...

.....and that's not at all true..

..for anyone wondering why, please read-up on central air conditioning.

my brother runs his a/c when it first gets hot, say June....and he never shuts it down until September.....he also runs the furnace fan to circulate the air...

I can only imagine what it costs him per month and they live in a 2 story 5 bedroom home... I have forwarded all that info to him....as he is the type that he always thinks he knows everything.

It's nice and "Green", too. It's surprising what things you can turn off to save electricity.

Do you use "compact fluorescent" light bulbs? They're very good - the only issue is that they take a second to come on, and a short time to achieve full brightness. People may also barrack about "mercury", which isn't actually an issue.

What do you pay for a unit (1KWHr)?

I've always been cautious with electricity....only one light on when watching t.v at night...........the t.v. is only on when its used..

laundry is done Saturday.....in cold water....lowest times are weekends.

I have two lamps that use the energy-saver bulbs.......

I pay 5.7 cents per kilowatt

what gets me is all the additions added on to the bill monthly:

G.S.T tax

delivery charge

regulatgory charge

debt retirement charge



these 4 add up to roughly 48.00 per month

the actual electricity is only 34.00

so on a regular month: total is: 83.00

that's without running the central air or heating in winter.........then it can be up to 160.00 per month.

Anyway, yes, 24 pence/kWh for the first 125 units per quarter. 10p a unit thereafter, so if your 636 unit bill was for a quarter, we'd pay, in the UK, £81.10p What's that in local currency?

I don't know why you have two figures, when one is for few units - maybe it's some sort of charge for the meter.
