Starehole Bay, Salcombe, South Devon.

Golden sand, caves, shipwrecks, not accessible by road, and almost tropical in summer.

Any beach on the Isle of Wight. :-6:-6:-6

The Isle of Wight is a beach lovers paradise with over 60 miles of beach to explore throughout the year. From quiet secluded bays, fossil rich coves and miles of award winning sandy beaches which are safe for swiming, its no wonder the Isle of Wight's coastline is so popular.

In 2007, Blue Flag status was given to the beaches at Ryde East, Sandown and Shanklin for achieving the highest quality in water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management. Some 13 other Isle of Wight beaches were given Seaside Awards for above average water quality.

We have many beautiful sandy beaches that are never packed, the water is clean and clear, we provide beautiful weather, friendly natives and lots of fun. It's reminiscent of the most perfect childhood summer beach holidays!

I went across in a Ferry boat just the other day, climbed up to the castle, looked all around, stumbled back down the mountain then walked around the fantastic gardens at the back of the mount. By the time we did all that the tide had gone out and we walked back across to Marazion.

And... everytime I look out of one of my windows I have a view of the Mount, stunning in all weathers (apart from fog ;)). :-6

Betty: Going to be down in Truro visiting my bruv in a few weeks. Last time we went to Marazion and St Michael's Mount - perhaps this time it will be open!:wah:

I did like the causeway out to the island, and the ruts that thousands of cartwheels had made in it. A sense of deep time...

I was in Truro today :wah: Check out the website, the National Trust places are in the habit of closing on odd days of the week! Let me know when, we may be about and could grab a coffee.

Betty: That would be good. Hopefully it can be arranged, but I am there for my brother who is having a bad time :-1 and of course you have your own commitments...

We'll see what we can do. Coffee (well, tea in my case) with the Boop is not something to be turned down lightly!

Will contact you closer to the time. Only knew I would be going down there this evening. Hope we can work something out. :-6

Ninety mile beach in Victoria is lovely and mostly deserted. You can have the whole entire landscape to yourself. It's great when a storm is coming or watching the moon rise over the horizon. Anytime you want to come over for a swim you're most welcome:D

Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk. Vast expanse of golden sand at low tide - superb for the children. Plenty of kiting, lots of boating activity as it is a very popular harbour for visiting boats, lots of sail-boarding, sailing etc. etc. and plenty of room on the beach to just spread out and sunbathe! The Queen's beach hut is just along the beach among the sand dunes and the pine trees (She often visits Sandringham, which is not many miles away from Wells). One year we saw Charles and Diana walking along Holkham sands (a continuation of the beach from Wells) and exchanged a few words with them ! There was nobody else in sight at the time !

Gosh, I remember Australian beaches! The sand is coral fragments and so WHITE with a scrunchy sound all their own when you walk on them.

But your favourite beach isn't just a physical location, it's where your heart is. Which is why every person's different location is completely right.

fuzzywuzzy;1224821 wrote: watching the moon rise over the horizon.

The motion of the Moon is much more difficult to calculate than the motion of the Sun.

If you want very precise directions, then you're best off using a planetarium program, which can calculate the direction of the Moon for whatever time and location you want, and (usually) can calculate the direction at moonrise and moonset as well. Some examples are Redshift 5 (for Microsoft Windows; Maris Technologies) and xplns (for Linux; Xplns introduction (english)), but there are many more.

If you don't mind doing some calculations yourself, then you can try the instructions from the "Positions in the Sky"-page. If you just want the general direction, and already know where the Sun rises and sets in each season for the location that you are interested in, then you can figure it out as follows: If the Moon is x days beyond the lalalalalalallalalaalalaaaaadoes x times 2/5 months later and x times 4/5 hours earlier, as seen from the same location on Earth. Likewise, if the Moon is x days before New Moon, then it rises and sets roughly where the Sun does x times 2/5 months earlier and x times 4/5 hours later.

The best beach in my opinion depends on what you plan to do. Swim, surf, fish, lay out, photo, picnic or combination. I have several beaches that I love, but for different reasons. Some in Australia, New Zealand, Florida, Yucatan Penninsula, California, Belize, Tahiti and Hawaii.

Miami Beach - Ft. Lauderdale - West Palm Beach - CoCo Beach Florida

are beautiful.

San Diego & Hawaii Beaches are beautiful. Oregon Coast is a wonderful area...

I've had the priviledge to do some traveling - I haven't found a beach I haven't enjoyed.

Just confirmed Hawaii plans for October.

climbing rocks or sand dunes in Michigan/Ohio area.

Then there's the beaches - Oh, Cabana Boy ....!!!

We stayed there one night after going to Cape Canaveral. It was a good trip but I wasnt impressed with the beach. Didnt like Daytona much either. Key West in itself is a cool place but even their beaches suck. The West Coast is much nicer in my opinion.

Comparing the 2 I'd have to agree the West Coast/ Pacific Ocean wins hands down... I did find the water warmer on the East Coast.

If you haven't made it to the West Coast Nomad - it's a must

I'm sure that's why we love Hawaii so much

the sand is warm, soft, loose, deep, the water is luke warm / refreshing

and we've made quite a rapore with many there. it's a great time...

I hope you make the time for CA / Oregon ? Hawaii ?

Oh, timing is everything - check calendar for those Jellyfish - Hawaii has them too...!!!
