The bond between a mother and baby can be quite powerful, mysterious, and beautiful.

I find in animals, its quite sad the way they hold on and grieve, just hoping....
such a tragic story of just how much love they can give their offspring.
and yet she is blessed with a newborn.....how sweet.

We have just had a story on the forum about a woman eating her baby. Women also reject babies although I believe it is rare.

yes one woman did.
but when one considers the roughness of the animals in the wild, always having to defend themselves against predators, their intuition that something close is about to snatch their young away.....
constantly tearing other animals apart just to have a bite to eat or defend their family's.....ends up the animals are gravely maimed or killed.
most animals loose one of their young from them being to weak to run with them or eaten by a predators.
and a lot reject their young, this is why so many are abandoned and die.
